Yesterday afternoon, along with some other stuff, I was playin around with some ’06 with powders I have not worked with much, or at all. I have a Ruger Mod77SS 30-06 with a 22” barrel, and I was working with the Hornady 180gr BTSP bullet. Win cases. I am shooting at 200 yards, and the temp was 36°F, not a cloud in the sky. Oehler mod 33 chronograph at 15'. Alliant 4000-MR is one I have not tried in ’06. Alliant recommends 57.0grs with a 180gr bullet. And, they say this load will produce 2700 fps. Hmm.. I thought.. They also recommended a Fed215 primer. I thought that was kinda overkill, so substituted a CCI-250. Far right target.. Well as you can see, not only did this load produce 2700 fps with a 22” barrel, it did it at 36°. Plus, accuracy is not bad either. The first two rounds are just about touching. This is worth further study.. OT.. I was pretty impressed with that Fed 130gr SP factory load out of my kid’s .270 Win… The Remington load group was 3”.. Why do they call it common sense, when it is so uncommon?? | ||
