Does anyone have any loads using Accurate 4350 for 470NE. The Accurate loading brochure does not list any.

Thanks in advance

.470 NE as in .470 Nitro Express?

You need to think "straight walled case." Like .45/70 or .444 Marlin or .45 Long Colt.

I am guessing that 4350 anything is way, WAY too slow a powder. 3031 or faster. Nitro Express rifles/cases were strong enough, but not loaded hot because ammo would be used in HOT climates. Africa. India. Your MAX loads MIGHT wander into 4064 range. Look up the HOT loads for .45/70. Useful, all around loads, could use 2400? 296? 4227. H322.

I would contact the powder makers/sellers, largely Hodgdon these days, with this question. They would be able to give you BEST info. There is a Reloader 7 load with 300 grain bullets for the .45/70 that is rated safe in trapdoor rifles, pressure below 16K CUP. I loaded some 500 grain .45s ONCE, 4198 as I recall, cast and mid range load. THEY KICK! Unless you plan to roam the elephant lands and pick fights... Luck. Happy trails.

I just checked the data I have and could not find load information with any 4350 in the 470 NE. I am loading either 87gr of RL15 with a Kynoch wad and 500gr softs (86gr with solids) or 106gr of IMR4831 with softs and 105gr with solids. RL15 can be volatile from lot to lot, 87gr with the current lot I have chronoes at 2150-2160fps with a 500gr softnose in my Merkel. My Searcy prefers the IMR4831 loads.

IMR 4831 is the powder for the 470 but no reason 4350 won't work just fine. I'll look and see if a ever used it. RL-15 is also good. 4350 is in the middle of the two. A powder that fills the case to the base of the bullet with no filler is best, this is the reason IMR 4831 works so well.

Thanks for all the replies. I had, until just now, all my books packed up for my move to my new gun rooom. Got it done, pulled out Graham Wright's book and right there on the first line is a regulating load for 4350.

I am stuck with 4350 because it is the only powder I have been able to get. I got it through a tip on this forum, thanks guys.

Looks like it is a viable option for my 375 H&H as well as the 338 Win Mag all of which I am taking to Namibia in October

I loaded some 470 NE cartridges for a buddy using 97 grains of H4350 behind a 500 grain solid. I would have to look but I believe the max listed load was 100 grains. I never shot the rifle but he liked the rounds. He finally got his own press and does his own loading now.

Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

In Wright's book he offers that 101 grains is a typical regulation load. I found another source that shows 105 gr as the max load.

Bought a Chrony and can't wait to shoot. Unfortunatly the gun is still a couple of weeks out.

A-Square's Any Shot You Want lists H4831, IMR 4831, RL-15, IMR 7828, RL-19, and RL-22 pushing their A-Square Solid.

I used 88gr Rel-15 Woodleigh Solids in my K-Gun
