I seem to get questions on have I tried this, or that. I have done the 22/50 with IMR 4198. Powder: IMR 4198 Primer; CCI/LR Case Winchester Rifle: Winchester Model 70, PacNor 28 in Stainless Steel in a Heavy Sporter Contour. Bullet: 55 gr Sierra HP; Speer 52 gr HP. Velocity: 1.3395 fps 2.3387 fps 3. 3394 fps 4. 3375 fps 5. 3384 fps. accuracy at 50 and 100 yds is essentially a one hole shooter. I worked up to 29 grains. IMR lists data as 27 grains max, and Steve Riccardelli's site lists 30 grains max. 30 grains proved to be safe in my Winchester and both of my factory Rugers. ( one a VT and one a Sporter weight) The best accuracy was at 25 grains so that is why I am posting it. Groups opened up, if the powder capacity was increased or decreased., This load accounted for 55 ground squirrels out of 58 shots a week ago at distances from 100 plus yards to about 250 yrds. Hope someone finds this useful even if it is not a Blue Dot load. This load does allow the 22/250 barrel to stay cooler longer than the loads that typically take 35 grains or more of powder ( Varget, H 4895 etc). MY guestimate is being able to take TWICE as many shots before needing to cool the barrel over regular load data. Cheers and Good shooting seafire

Thanks Seafire, again you are further ahead , but traveling in a similar direction as myself. Do you have any 300WM info ? Or a % of case capacity starting load for general purpose ? I am leaning toward H322 in 300WSM for my next experiment, H4198 would also be a candidate for research. Thanks again for all the data ! Travis F.

Trav: Yeah I own a 300 Win Mag. I also have already posted some load data I did with Blue Dot and 150 and 165 grain bullets in it if you were interested. As far as testing with 4198, I have done that long before I played with Blue Dot. From 22/250 to 338 Mag for reduced loads. I have found IMR 4198 to be far more accurate and consistent than the Hodgdon version, although the load data is interchangeable in my opinion, in most applications. 30 grains of IMR 4198 with a 165 grain Ballistic Tip in a 30/06 with a 24 inch barrel was responsible for downing a Montana Cow Elk that weighed 650 pounds or so on the hoof. She went maybe 30 to 40 yds after being hit in the lungs, and was down for the count. The ballistic tip, destroyed the lungs and also most of the liver and was under the hide on the far side. I use a lot of IMR 4198. Cheers & good shooting seafire
