I should know this but will ask you experts. I came across a small quantity of 270 brass. Is it possible to size the case necks up to load 3006? If so how I assume you couldnt just run them thru a 06 sizer die. If possible would it make the necks too thin?

Shouldn't be a problem except .270 brass is a millimeter longer than .30-06 brass....you'll have a lot of trimming to do....but I'm sure you already knew this.

I've taken 280 brass to 416 and used it. Currently make brass for my 380PDK from Nosler 280Rem brass.

Just make sure you trim it. I would try and trade it myself. Guess I'm getting lazy in my old age.

As usual just my $.02

So just run it through a o6 sizer die and trim? No I didnt know it was a little longer. No problem I use a lee trimmer in a drill press.

yup....the .30-06 trim length is 2.494 and the .270 is 2.54

It's a full millimeter and will take a bit of doing.....have at it.

When the 270 Win. neck is sized for .308 caliber bullets, the case will be shorter. I think there is a good chance that no trimming will be needed.

When I take a 280 case to 375 it shortens from 2.524 to 2.47" Measuring the stop at 308 it is 2.505. If I take a 277 case and shorten it the same amount per inch expansion I still have a case that is 2.4995 which will leave you a minimum of .05" to trim.

As easy as 30-06 brass is to get I sure wouldn't waste time fooling with necking up and trimming 270 brass.

Trim most of the way first so you are not to long for your die. Size and finish triming.

Remember the imperial sizing wax. Maybe some neck annealing as well.

Bob.

Yes, 30-06 brass is cheap and easy to get, but maybe working with the brass can be fun for some.

I also have a Lithgow Enfield, a No.1 MkIII*. I tried to find out more info on the Lithgow factory, but was stymied. It's like the govt there wants to ignore it ever existed.

Hey Philbilly,
Depending on its provenance could be a fair amount. If you post a request for an opinion on a price on the Australian and New Zealand Hunting Forum https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/5621043
Its different on that forum.
Kick a bush and a 303 buff drops out.
In their day 303's were as common as armpits downunder. Everybody had two.

Regards,
Bob.

Thanks spudster and Bob down under!! Mine is a Mark 111 too. Yea that imperial sizing wax is the best. Hey Bob hate to bring up politics particularly the way our election went up here. How hard is it for you to reload in Australia? I mean components and such? Obviously they havent taken away your bolt rifles yet right! Do you have to register your guns? No semi autos right? How about revolvers? thanks again for the link! thanks to everyone that contributed. Good reloading to yall!!
