Hi all ...

Sold a couple guitars - figured now's the time to start Reloading again.

(only .22-250 VERY little chance of ever expanding)

If some of you experienced reloaders would look over my list, below - I'd be greatful. My "home board" fellas have done a great job in pointing out some blatant ommissions ...

Here's their suggestions of list additions --

1.) Nosler and Sierra manuals

2.) A powder trickler

3.) 200 WINCHESTER (no other brand) cases

4.) .22 powder funnel

5.) de-burring tool

6.) Wilson (specifically) case trimmer

7.) Imperial (specifically) sizing wax

8.) Use CCI #250 primers, instead of CCI #200

Any helpful info or conversation will be very much appreciated by me! [Smile]

(There's a few items at the end of the list that aren't reloading related)

Looks my list when I call in an order to Natchez,Midway,Midsouth,Graf's,,,,Wow I get a lot of catalogs and every one has many tempting items. Personally I don't see how you can stick to reloading for just one round,I certainly don't have that kind of restraint. I currently load for 35+ different cartridges. Believe me I did not intend it. Buy a few more centerfire guns, keep pricing factory ammo vs reloads after the new rockchucker is broken in and get back to us about only reloading fpr the 22-250.

B.C.
I think i would see if a local gunshop had the primers and powder, and save the haz mat shipping charge, if that is possible?
Also like 45nut said, hope you can stick to just one caliber.Reloading gets to be an addiction, and we all like to have hands into making better ammo for our own needs.I have dies from 9MM to 50BMG and use them all through a years time. Some a lot more than others for sure, but they all get used.

You might want to add a caliper to your list. They come in handy when you set your die for OAL, or need to check case lenght [Wink]

I would use the components that the manuals suggest. The reason I say that is because I tried H414 in my /06 and used 57.5 gr and used CCI-200 and CCI-250's and here's the results, same everything just different primers, 180 gr spbt's, CCI200 were 2760fps and the CCI250's were 2739fps. So one thing you should get is a chrony and shoot your loads, this tells the true story. Good luck on you reloading venture, you'll have fun.

I'd add a stuck case remover to your list. Might just need it during a late night last minute reloading marathon. I never make mistakes, but I'll be damned if I didn't have to use the friggin' thing twice day before yesterday.

Looks like TWO HAZMAT charges to me. The primers and the powder have to go in separate packages. Get that stuff locally. You can drive an awful long ways for two HAZMAT charges.

Or do primers not incur that charge?

I would not pay freight on polishing media, either. You like cob, you can get a huge bag at any pet supply store, for less than that cost without shipping. I don't so I would sub a bag of rice, preferably brown and a can of Bon Ami bought locally. I'm also too cheap to spend that kind of money on electronic scales and fancy sandbags. Just there is the price of an NEF Handi, to which I am partial. It's half the price of a good many other models.

The handheld auto prime makes me nervous. I just bought the version that mounts in the press like a die because I can get a blast shield on it. I had the primer magazine on a Pro 1000 blow up on me once. Now I want good steel between me and any primer magazine in operation.

Other than that, looks pretty good. Cheap as I am, I might go a few more bucks on the die set. I have some Bonanza benchrest die sets I think highly of.

You forgot PressureTrace to monitor your pressures.

This info is about a week old, so I'm not sure if the offer is still current.

Cabelas has the Rockchucker Supreme reloading kit on sale for $239. It’s an email only special that isn’t listed on the website. Supposed to only last for 2 weeks. ( Item # is 1AD-214924 The 1AD part is important. )

Go to a local gunshow and get much of the list items at 50 to 75 percent of cost. Just be careful or talk a friend with experience into going with you. Or put a free add in a local add paper asking for the items you want. Surprising how many people have way more than they need and don't mind selling and giving it up.
Read your manuals and instruction books before you unpack anything else. I also like the Hornady manual and the new Barnes for plain instruction.
Have fun with the project and let us know hoow many die sets you have in a year.

i have bought a number of items over the past few years, some are in closset the useable, for me, are co-ax press, forster bench rest dies, hornady scale and powder measure, lyman check weights, dillon caliper, rcbs ram prime die, lee case trimmer, lyman deburring tool, case blocks, lots of books on reloading and several load manuals and powder brochures. final load choice if from data with pressure readings. i know there will be more bought and tried and i am sure you will find that out also. the ram prime die is mounted permanantly in a lee reloader press. i also load for the 22-250.

If you are going to load for one caliber only dont buy two reloading manuals at at cost of around 50.00. Buy one of those paperback "Loadbooks" for $6.50 and it will list every load you will probably need. Or, if you wanna go even cheaper go to stevespages.com and look up just about any load for any caliber you can imagine. Wont hurt to cross refrence his data with another source just as a double check but as far as I can tell he is pretty much right on the money with his data. Instead of buying all those components I would buy a box of factory loads in each of the bullet weights listed and see what bullet weight your rifle likes and then buy a box or two of that weight and type. As for powder I think H-380 or Varget will get you where you want to be and it will meter so much better than the extruded powders through your powder measure. The other guys are right. Try to buy your powder and primers locally until you know what you like. By then you can probably find another shooter who will split a large lot of powder and primers with you and cheapen up the haz-mat charges. Hope this helps.
