Hey guys,

I just bought a Tikka T3 270win and I am reloading for it. I have loaded the Serria Game King,140g BT but when I load the bullets into the chamber then eject them, the leads tips are being bent somehow. I can also see marks on the the bullet itself. I tried to seat the bullet a little lower(even lower than the recommended cart length), but its still doing it. Does anyone know what is causing this? Thanks for the help. JJ

My guess before coffee is the tip hits the front edge of the port or rear edge of the chamber or both on the way out. A spring type of ejector is pushing the bullet to the right as it starts back. As the case clears the chamber everything flips right until the bullet hits the chamber wall. Soft lead will deform and leave the angle.

yup - a clear case of tips up!!!

Thanks for yalls info. What do I need to do? Rework the chamber? I guess I should take it to a gun smith?? I dont know anything about "case of tips up"? Could I just change the type of bullets I use? Appreciate the help guys.

You need to determine if the bullet is being damaged on the way in or on the way out.

If on the way in, you need to fix it.

If on the way out, you can always hold the cartridge in line with your fingers while extracting it.

And just so you know, bullet tip damage is seldom detrimental to accuracy unless it is really, really bad. You can always use the damaged ones for practice, etc. I mean, how many live cartridges do you eject in any given year??

Go to something with a Poly tip like a Accubond. Like was mentioned other than looks I doubt you would see a performance issue.

Funny you posted this,today i tried the Hornady plastic tipped bullets in my old browning bolt rifle and it ripped the tip slap off!I had a very tight crush fit so i ejected the round and had to dig the polymer tip out of the bottom of the ejector area,i rechecked the length of some other bullets and thetiny tip was that much longer,go figue,I will just use the reguler spire points and round nose bullets it likes anyways for hunting,but made a good case for checking your reloads for fit and function before going to the woods...Iam gonna try to reseat them just a smidge and see if they will chamber better..or just pull them and start from scratch..

I didnt know it wouldnt affect the accuracy. Since that is the case I will just let it go until does become a problem. Thanks everyone! I am going to love this site!

jljosey 95,Try some round nose bullets,they shoot just as well and should feed better..lots of times in my rifles the spire points allways got smashed because they are so easy to deform and soft....I like the nosler protected point bullets,they are flat at the tip not pointed..Good luck!
