Hello guys! Please tell me what do you know about the powder used in Russian service 7.62X54R ammo of 1980-88' manufacture with standard FMJ bullet. What is the type, charge weight, burn rate? What is the possible similar US powder? I have some pulled down powder from 60-86 and 188-60 head stamped ammo and want to find some use from it.

Thank you in advance!

Davaa

Davaa, Pull and weigh ten or so rnds. of that ammo and then consult a Lyman, Hornady, et al loading manual re the 7.62 x 54R. Look for a powder/bullet weight combination that is close to the mean weight of the "as issued" stuff. ...Maven

I load 7.62x54R hot, but maybe not as hot as European factory ammo, but hotter than Amercian load manuals.

47 gr IMR4895 180 gr Sierra 2750 fps.
