| Somewhere on the net I ran into a chart called "cross-reference chart for military surplus powders". It lists data for the .300 Win Mag using 180 and 200 grain bullets. It says start at 72 grains of 5010 for 2300 fps and 80 grains for 2700 fps with the 180 grain bullet. It also says 72 to 80 grains with the 200 gr bullet and velocities given were the same as the 180 grain bullet. This chart does say to start low and work up as military surplus powders do vary in burn rates. Don't know where I found this chart and I can't find it again. Anyway, be careful and work up your loads. |

| Olcrip, I bought my 5010 (pull down I think) from Hi Tech in Wenlock, MO. In spite of the need to use fillers with it, at least in cast bullet loads and the difficulty in finding a powder measure that will handle it, (the Ohaus Duo-Measure will do the job.), I like it and plan to order more of it. ...Maven |

| Maven, may I ask how much your paying for your powder? I don't know if Jim at Shooting sports has any left at his son's place but the last I heard he was asking $5.00 a lb. bulk. His email is hozgun@revealed.net or you could call him. 309 797 2222. He is in the process of opening a new shop @ 12th St. and 5th Ave. in Moline, IL. |

| Yes it is IMR 5010 that I bought from a guy that sold his 50 BMG. I know that 5010 is not optimal for some of the quoted cartridges. But it is purported to work and is economical.
Can anyone post some actual charges that they used? |

| Olcrip & cokn, I usually purchase 5010 @ $28/8lb. fro Hi Tech (http:iidbs.com/hitech/). As for actual loading data, for cast bullets only, I use 47-49gr. 5010 + 1cc grex or powdered bran with CB's bet. 180-195gr. in my .30-06; 47-48gr. with .3cc grex or bran in my 8mm Mau. wi. CB's bet. 195-235gr.; and 47-48gr. wi. .7cc grex or bran in my 7.5 x 55mm Swiss (K-31) with CB's bet. 180-195gr. Magnum primers are required as is seating the CB's into the rifling (improves combustion). Grex or powdered bran improve burning efficiency and hold standard deviations to 28-30fps in all three of the cartridges mentioned above. ...Maven |
