I've read where many people are using the cleaner Varget over the IMR4064 for reloading ammo in their M1 Garands. I don't have an adjustable gas plug, I'm certain it is just the USGI plug. Does anyone on here have a pet load for their M1 garand? I would like to try the 168SMK in this one. "Let me start off with two words: Made in America"

I read the loads on that link and it seems to me you are turning the 30-.06 into a .308win with a long case. Not really trying to be contrary. Just an observation. George

That's because the loads are for an M1 Garand which is gas operated. If you run pressure too high, when the bullet clears the gas port you bend the operating rod. To the OP I always ran H4895 in mine. Have gun- Will travel The value of a trophy is computed directly in terms of personal investment in its acquisition. Robert Ruark

Loads for the M1 Garand must be kept to acceptable port pressure and not bend the OP rod. And they shortened the 30-06 a half inch to make the .308/7.62 for the M14 rifle. I also have 30-06 and .308 bolt actions that can be loaded "warmer". But why pound a M1 Garand to death, I baby my M1 and do not abuse it.

I also would like to baby my M1 Garand. I don't mind the lower velocity..keeps me from spending the $120+ for the Operating rod. I have many other rifles in .30Cal I can hotrod "Let me start off with two words: Made in America"
