I went rock chuck hunting over the weekend with a good buddy and used a .223 loaded with LC brass and RL-7 and these Berger bullets. I previously had been using the Nosler BT with great accuracy and decided upon Hotsh$t's recommendation to try some of these Bergers. We had shots around the 250-400 yard range and had a set up with a table, chairs, and a 60x spotting scope. When the wind was blowing the longer hits were hard to connect on but when the wind died down we had great luck with this load. Longest shot, during the wind lull was 414 which was culminated with a back flip from the rock chuck. We later went to some creeks that were surrounded by hay fields where the distances were much closer. These shots were around 50-75 yards and we had a great time using tricked out 10/22's with Winchester Xperts for ammo with that large hollow point. The memorable shot of the .22lr section was a double team on a large rock chuck at around 125 yards. We both shot at the same count and he just humped up and then the tail spin started. Final count for 2 days - 41 Rock Chucks and two farmers asking us to come back when their corn first come up to shoot again.

So how does the Bergers compare to the Noslers? Sounds like fun. God Bless, Louis

Louis I was not able to tell any difference in the field between the two loads as both were able to produce some spectacular back flips when the placement was correct. If anything it seemed like the Bergers produce more parts and pieces flying off in different directions upon hitting the chucks but not that great a difference, maybe a whisper more. I am going to follow Hotsh$t's advice and use this load as my deer load this coming fall. The .223 has a HTG suppressor on it and it has a 26" bull barrel. The gun is around 9 lbs. (Rem 700 SPS Varmint) and the scope adds another pound and the suppressor adds still another pound plus. This all adds up to 12+ shooter and when shot off the bench the impact can be seen through the scope as the recoil does not disturb the sight picture. Another bonus of the suppressor is that it can be shot without ear protection and sound more like a 22 short. A different sound for sure but since the rounds are going out the tube at 3900 fps and are supersonic the sound is suppressed for around 50 yards and then the swishing sound take over. Fun and giggles to shoot.
