are thes two bullets the same. the only difference i gather is the black lubalox coating on the silvertips. i have been shooting the factory silvertips and want to stay with them but if the regular ballistic tips are the same they are cheaper to reload than the silvertips. silvertips regular ballistic tips

Hard to say, for me at least. The way I look at it, bullets of the same diameter and weight are pretty much the same except for the formula used to describe the ogive. There are two types of which I know, the G1 and the G7. G1 bullets are pretty much the same your dad used as a kid. The G7 bullet is the VLD type-- very long ogive and very slippery going through the air. My suspicion is the ballistic tips and the Silvertips are of the G1 variety...

I was needing to reload some for my 7mm mag a couple of years ago and couldn't get any Nosler 150 gr. BT's so I got the Comb tech instead. I loaded up my old load for the BT's and the Comb Techs had a slightly larger group size, but same point of impact as the BT's. I've since gotten sick of the amount of ruined meat these bullets cause and am trying different ones now for the 7mm mag, but I think they work well in a more moderate caliber. To answer your question, I found no appreciable difference between these and BT's other than the price.

The Combined Technology Ballistic Silvertips are nothing more than Nosler Ballistic Tips that have been coated with the Lubalox. Nosler manufactures the Silvertips in their plant in Oregon, then sends them off to have the coating applied. R Flowers

Here`s Noslers explaination of the difference in their designs http://www.nosler.com/bullets.htm ------------------------------------ The trouble with the Internet is that it's replacing masturbation as a leisure activity. ~Patrick Murray "Why shouldn`t truth be stranger then fiction? SKSshooter, here is your problem-- the Nolser Ballistic Tip and the CT 'silvertip' is the same bullet, however; if you have been shooting 'factory' silvertips, that is another bullet altogether, and I at least, have not been able to find this bullet as a component. If you have been shooting a copper colored bullet with a silver tip, it is a VERY different bullet. The Winchester Supreme ammo, is loaded with the CT Ballistic tips, which they call 'Ballistic Silvertips' which is misleading--it is simply a White Plastic Tip, in all calibers in that ammo line. If THIS Wincehster Silvertip is what you are trying to replicate, I don't know where you can find that bullet as a component, wish I did, cause it is a great bullet! If THIS BALLISTIC SILVERTIP is what you are trying to duplicate, than the CT Bullet is exactly it! Good luck--Don

fish im trying to replicate the second one the ballistic silver tip. the ct bullets are supposed to be them. the thing is i can get 50 of those for $20 or the nosler ballistic tips for $15 they appear to be the same bullets with the exception of the black lubalox coating which i don't see really being an issue i think its more of a marketing thing than anything. they look cool.
