I have been using Win. 231 for light/low pressure pistol loads for many years, but I find that with very light loads, my Uniflow powder measure will not consistently throw charges?

What I need is a ball/flattened ball powder with small grains which is a very fast (as fast or faster than Win 231).

I know AA 2 is a ball powder, but how about: Hodgdon Clays, Win. WST, Vihtavuori N310, Rex 0, Rex 1, Ramshot ZIP? Which of these powders fit the bill?

My RCBS measure with the small chamber (benchrest) throws light charges of 231 well. You may need a smaller volume measure.

Win WST is an excellent pistol powder a little faster than 231. Hodgdon's "Titewad" is another flattened ball that is faster yet and I have used it with good (and clean) results in very light pistol rounds.......

Hodgdon's "Clays" is a flake powder and doesn't measure well in small amounts for me.

This is from Ranshots web site.

Zip is a double based, modified (flattened) spherical powder that performs extremely well in small to medium sized handgun cases. Clean, fast burning and consistent with a wide range of cartridges, Zip is a great choice for target and competitive shooters. Zip's versatility and ability to perform at low charge weights also makes this powder the choice of high volume, cost conscious reloaders.

Ideal Calibers:
9mm, .38 Special, .40 S&W, .45 ACP

Bulk Density (grams/liter) 780

Packaged in 1lb. and 4lb. containers.

AA #2 is a fine grey ball powder not unlike pepper. It meters very well in my RCBS Uniflow measurer. I use it in my .38 spl. loads with satisfaction.

Thanks for the input guys. Titewad powder sound interesting. May have to give that a try.

BigRx, I'm sure I could get better results with my Uniflow/flake powders if I changed the chamber to the small one, but it seems like it would be easier and less expensive to not buy one and find a powder that worked for me.

Any one have any experience with Rex-0 or Rex-1?
