I have a 180 grain load that really kicks butt...46.5 grains IMR-4064 behind a 180 accubond

I'm getting 2740 FPS from a 20" barrel.....it's over Hodgdon's recommended max load and is highly compressed.....

It's not for the timid but I find no signs of pressure at all!

For modern bolt rifles only!!!!

Vapodog, that is definitely a "smok'n load" you are using, but if no pressure signs, good for you. Loads for 308Win. used by myself and several others out there shooting matches are as follows:

155gr-46.2 IMR 4064
175gr-44.2 IMR 4064
190gr-42.2 IMR 4064
(nothing secret or special about the above loads, taken from Sierra manual and discussed to some length with Sierra folks some 15 years ago. Sierra says you can go 48 plus with the 4064 using the 155gr bullets, but as mentioned, definitely a compressed load.)
Lapua brass, FED210M primers, case trimmed to 2.005, bullet seated some .003-.005 off lands and grooves, brass sized -.002 of chamber size.

My loads or others may well not work in your rifle and proceed with fair amount of caution.

I like IMR-4064 in my .308 and it seems to work with any bullet I choose. Mostly I shoot 150 grain bullets in it.

165gr. Sierra Gamekings over BL-C(2) worked very well in my Rem 700VS in 308 Win, usually less than 1 MOA at 100yd.

For the thin skinned, small bodied whitetails here in Florida I use 49.5gr of Varget and 125gr Nosler Bal. Tips. I have gotten 100% penetration on every deer that I have killed and none have run over 20yds.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING in the "HAPPY NEW YEAR"!!!!!!!!!!!!

For my 308 bar....it loves 48.0 748 under a 150 partition. Seems pretty clean burning...fills the case well...and meters nicely.

If you think the rifle is no good or you are no good, then try this:

.308, 110 gr Hornady Vmax, 44.9 gr H322, 2.81" OAL, ~3040 fps ~ 43kpsi

If you can shoot sub moa with that load at 50 yards [slam-dunk, slam-dunk], then it could be the rifle is not to blame on the other loads.

It could be your recoil management before the bullet exits the bore.
Change bags, technique, or change the stock.

130 gr Barnes Triple Shock pushed by 46.5 grains of H4895. The other day I had three holes touching at 100 yds!!! This is a tremendous round.

for hunting large game out to 500yds; or long range shooting out to 800yds.
