Has anyone had any experence with the
JDS Quick Measure powder measure? That is put out by Johnson Design Specialities. I have heard they work very well.

I bought a Quick Measure a couple of months ago.
I was looking for a powder measure for accuratre measuring of extruded log powders. IE IMR 4350. I talked with Tim Johnson several times before buying the quick measure. I have the quick measure with the 10 inch reservoir. I have it mounted on the progressve press adapter on a Dillon 550. I bought all the bells and whistles. The measure throws small grained and ball powders right on the money everytime. I have loaded about 1000 loads of 45 grains of IMR4350. It loads +/- .1 if you do your part. This mesure has a learning curve. It takes a special stroke and rhythm. I have made a couple of modification to the loader. They are as follows:

The slot that the O ring fits in that holds the measure tube in the bottom of the drop tube was opened up a little to ad more resistence in holding the two parts together. This was discussed with Tim Johnson first.

The drop tube is andoized, I noticed some roughness inside the tube. I took a 11/64ths reamer and dressed out the tube. I also dress out the bottom of the powder funnel. The powder funnel has a 1.25 clear plastic tube as a window to observe the powder drop. I had Tim Johnson send me a 2 inch piece of the Plastic tubing. I placed the bead chain on the adjusting screw and slid one of the small O rings over it to stablize it.

I know what I has just stated makes little or no sence to you. If you had a Quick Load Measure in your hands you would easily see what I am talking about.

My overall evaluation is the quick Measure is better with extruded an/or log powders. It is not as fast as a rotary or bar type measure. It addresses several issues I have with other measures. One irratic measurments of .2 or greater with log powders. and two it does not allow powders to bridge in the drop tub. I still measure with a scale on my 800, 900, and 1000 yard loads. I want them to be exact. I find the Quick load to be +/- .1 about 90% of the time.

Again it is right on the money for Varget and small grained powder. For loads 35 grains or less I would not double check them as they are right on the money.

On a scale of 1-10 I would give the quick Measure a 8. I would give a Harrells, Hornaday LNL, Redding, and RCBS a 6.

I don't konw what your loading needs are but I would say the Quick Load Measure is a step in the right direction. They take a little getting use to as they are a little different.
