I went through very similar gyrations (a lot of fun too!)with the 286 gr Partition, 232 gr Oryx and 250 BT in my FN 9.3x62 prior to my trip to Africa for plains game. I ended up trying and eventually utilizing the 250 gr Barnes X as it delivered the best accuracy (a first for me with the X), could safely be driven to 2650 fps and would equal or better the 286 gr Partition penetration. It worked wonderfully on everything from springbuck at 250 yards to eland at 30 yards. You might give the X a try if you haven't.

I think the book "The Perfect Shot" when it discusses hunting buffalo using a 9.3x62, says to only use solids.

Personally, I would only load 286 grian bullets (softs & solids) and not mess with the 270 bullets.
