Lets start this anew and see if it goes any where. Got any accurate reduced load info for the 416 Rigby? How about sources for lighter bullets in something besides the Barnes X? Anybody been there, done that? "D"

I don't shoot a Rigby but the reloading pages show loads for the 335 Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullet at 2300+ which would be redused for most shooters. As far as light bullets you have 350 gr by Swift and Speer Mag Tip. Woodleigh has a 335 gr. GS Custom has a 330 gr HV and North Fork has both a 325 gr and a 370 gr. I have shot the 350 gr Mag Tip is my 416 Taylor and found it to be accurate. I have only read reports on the others. I have shot some of the GS Custom in other calibers and they attain great velocity (100 fps above normal bullets) with less barrel wear and less preasure than most bullets. The North Fork bullets would be much the same due to their similiar design. Good Hunting [This message has been edited by Santala (edited 08-12-2001).]

Thanks Todd. I have some of the Speers and will be working up some deer loads for the winter. I will use it to work out any kinks in the system. I guess that I will try something in the 21-2200 fps ballpark for a deer load. I am not opposed to using a filler and a magnum primer. I am wondering about powders. Faster powders tend to do better in the reduced loads for most rounds. I know you are not supposed to use slower powders for reduced loads. What powders did you use in your Rigby for the 350 gr loads? Not too many people interested in this. I guess anyone with any sense just gets a 30-06 for deer. Thanks anyway. "D" [This message has been edited by D Hunter (edited 08-16-2001).]

D Hunter, Just curious, but why not use the 350 Speer at or around 2500 fps? 80 gr H380 and a FedGM215M primer gets me right in there with very little fuss and bother in my 416 Rem Mag - with reasonable recoil. Don [This message has been edited by Don G (edited 08-16-2001).]

There is a published reduced load for the .416 Rigby that uses a 350 grain cast bullet. Go to accuratearms.com, the web site of the AA powder folks. look under powder XMP5744. This powder is used a lot for cast bullet shooting in voluminous cases (45-70, 45-90, etc.), and for reduced loads. This web site lists a load that gives a 350 cast bullet 2100 fps muzzle velocity - sounds like a great practice/plinking load. Beartooth Bullets used to sell a 350 grain .416 cast bullet. I hope this helps.

D Hunter, I have used both RL19 and IMR 4350 in my 416 Rigby. Velocities are similar with both powders. I won't post the actual load data, but will say that is is very close to maximum loads publish for 416 Weatherbys. Above all else enjoy your cannon. Todd E
