Dang.....there are a bunch to choose from. Went to Midsouth and found neck dies, small dies, full length dies, seater dies, and trim dies!!! What the neck do I need for my new reloading venture???? I have nothing and I'm getting reading to order everthing for the first time.

Set of Forster FL + regular (no Ultra) seater dies. Best for the $$$.

Get a set of Lee Deluxe dies, comes with the FL resizer, collet neck sizer and seater dies.

Those forster dies are pretty good deal for the $.

Plus a Redding kit and 3BR powder measure. Bushing neck die and body die rather than FL, if you're feeling amibitious and want extended case life. Forster's press is first line, if it appeals to you, and their bushing bump neck die is an innovation. All of Redding's stuff is excellent. Determine your own preferences.

A Lee Collet Neck Sizer

A Redding Body Die

An RCBS Competion Seater

And a Lee Factory Crimp Die


That way you can neck size when you want to, set the shoulder back when you need to, seat the bullet without introducing runout and have a more constant bullet release tension.

It's what I have in all calibers where they are available



Have a whole drawer full of now useless Full Length Dies, regular seating dies and expander ball type dies.

I suggest you use the K.I.S.S. approach. Buy a set of RCBS Full Length dies for 22-250 and be done with it. Don't get caught up in all the aesoteric bullshit designed to seperate reloaders from their dollars.

Stick to the basics untill you are familiar with your reloading for that rifle.
When you are comfortable with what these speciality dies do and don't do then get them if you want.

You would really appreciate the RCBS Competion seater die. That's the one with the window where, after raising the ram partway, you drop in the bullet thru the window.

for value, they are hard to beat! i reckon the collet neck sizer is one of the better neck sizers around. we have loaded plenty of accurate rounds with lee dies.
I have a regular redding die set ( just a seater and full length) and it loads rounds that will put 5 shots under half an inch @ 100 yards.

If i were you id just buy a regular set of dies. redding, lee, rcbs, forster. any of those will do.


youll achieve better accuracy through shooting practice, load development, bedding the rifle and floating the barrel than by having competition dies - which are exactly that, made for shooting bench rest and IMO not worth the extra cash unless your going custon on the rifle
