What bullet weight, 400gr? I like RL15 for the 350gr upto 2500fps, but for the 380gr-400gr, I love IMR4831 & RL19 for about 2200fps. VV160 is also looking very promising. Welcome to the fraternity. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

I am starting with practice loads, 300 grain bullets, i have also purchased ammo from CZ (its made by A-Square with the CZ name stamped on it), I am also expecting 280 grains bullets from hawk. I ordered a custom 3-die set from Redding, should be here in 2 weeks. Cant wait. thanks for the info.

Is that 280gr bullet a custom order? I have not seen that weight on their site. RL15 will work well for the 300gr. I only run them to 2500fps or so but you can easily get there w/ 75gr-76gr of either. If you are going to shoot alot of 300gr, you might consider making your own "plinker" from 44mag SP. You can size them down in a Lee bullet sizer. Lee will make you a custom .423 for something like $25. I also bought one in .427. Use Imperial sizing wax & go .427 first then down to .423. They shoot 1.5moa out to 100yds. For the cost of one box of Hawks, you can make all the inexpensive 300gr plinkers you want. You can also use RL15 & 4064 for 350gr but I would go abit slower for 400gr when you get there. H4350, RL19 & IMR4831 are all good under 400gr heads. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

This sounds like a great load! I have ordered Norma and A-Square brass as well. The 280 from Hawk are Custom and I believe he said the smallest working bullet they ever made for 494 Jeff was 275. Hs anyone ever used 500 Grain bullets? Is it even possible?

This will be no help, but my standard load is a 400 gr.Barnes "Traditional" SP RN, .049" jacket, over 55 grains of Cordite. Honest, Truth. Have had enough of both around for the last 38 years to still be shooting that load.

i ran my loads thru the chrograph and had very little variation with the 400 tsx at 2440 fps with 80 grains of rl-15. This is not max in my CZ. I can go uo alot from there but there is no reason to. the load i have shoots under 1 moa and kills like thor.I also use the solids with the same load and do not have to change my hold to shoot a duiker at 100 yds. give it a try and keep it simple. i do plan to try gs bullets soon and will let you know.

For 300gr plinkers? I have used the Hornady XTP & Nosler 300gr. The Speer 300grSP looks like it would do well too. I only run them about 2200fps. Very pleasent plinking loads. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Thanks a lot, Larry at SuperiorAmmo mentioned he can get very light loads around 1300 fps, he said they wont go far but great for plinking. What Powder do you think would get me to this speed?

For light 300gr bullets, I like faster powders. Varget/ RL15 even RL12 work fine. I haven't gone below 2000fps or any faster powders, but I suppose it could be done. In my 10# 404j, 300gr @ 200fps are pretty mild recoiling, about like a lt.wt. 06 w/ 180gr loads. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!
