Can anyone suggest a powder to use in 308W. Rifle is a Rem 700, S/S Match barrel 12" twist,24".
Projectiles I want to try are 165gn lead and 135gn lead.
The velocity range I would like is 1700-2100fps.
Speer reloading manual has reduced loads for jacketed projectiles, Would it be safe to substitute a lead projectile instead?

Assuming you are using gas checked bullets? If so for the lighter bullet 2400 or 4227 - start at 16 gr and work up in on gr increments to 25 gr. With the 165 start at 25 gr of 4895 and work up to 30 gr in 1 gr increments.

Suggest you get and read Lyman's cast bullet manual if you are serious about shooting cast bullets.

My pet load for the .308 Win, is the Lyman bullet #311644 over 25.0 gr. of IMR or H-4895. Bullet weighs abougt 185 gr. and will put five shots into 1.5 MOA at 200 yards an 2.5 MOA at 300 yards. YMMV. Bullets are sized to .310" and are seated to slightly engage the rifling.
