Just finished my second season of hunting with my own handloaded ammo & here's the report for myself and my two teenage sons. One elk taken with 35Whelen using 225gr Gamekings @2560fps- complete pass through chest shots(2) though the first was plenty, but I shoot till they hit the ground. Four mule deer total 1) 30-06 w/165gr Gameking @2800fps -one heart shot with no recovered bullet. 2) .270Win w/130gr ballistic tip @ 2900fps -one shot through chest, complete pass through chest with dime sized entrance and dollar sized exit. 3) .270Win w/130gr Gameking at 2950fps- neck shot and one instantly dead deer, no big blow up. 4) .270Win w/130gr Gameking @ 2950fps- shot through sternum just in front of shoulder, deer did get up, but secong shot through neck did the trick. Two antelope 1) 30-06 w/165gr Gameking -great heart shot at 300+yds and one quickly dead goat. 2) 270Win w/130gr Gameking -15" antelope in last hour of last day hit low on front leg, finished through chest. Granted none of these were butt to front shots, none were big bull elk, but all were good clean kills with non-premium bullets with very little meat damage and no bullet blow-ups. Thanks for letting me lurk on this sight and pick up tidbits from all who post. Reloading is one of the most enjoyable hobbies I've every taken up.

Yes indeed, congratulations on a great Season. Looks like a lot of fine successful hunting and plenty of the world's finest meat for the freezer.

Just a good thing you got them all killed before you could read the threads about how GameKings and B-Tips just don't work on Game.

Your story took me back a year or two and it was great reading. Hot Core's comments on bullet selection and performance goes double with me.Even if once every 13 years one of those bullets fail, you got to remember Kiyootes have to eat too. roger

Congrats on a great season. I am officially jealous as everyone in our group now has meat in the freezer but me. Off too Texas next week to try and end the drought.

Congratulations on a great hunt and a lot of fine table fare too.

I'm assuming you're a Sierra employee
