Greetings-

Has anybody reloaded for this gun and what are your recipes?

I am fixin to reload new or once fired 7.62 x 38 brass and either the DEWC or a HBWC at 98 gns, as my starting point.

I have a several alliant powders - bullseye unique, blue dot, 2400, that i can work with.

I figured i would get the lee die set which i understand may need some tweaking.

Thanks for your help.

AS i am understanding it, Lee die set will work on 32-20 brass if u give up gas seal and just reform shell to the 7.62 shape.. but can work on 7.62 brass you just need to modify the bullet seater to go deeper..

I also read that 30 carbine would shoot in gun, i assume using a reduced load, you can load and shoot 30 carbine in it? but no gas seal..

i am wondering if 30 carbine brass is heavier and more durable than the other brass since 30 carbine is more modern round?

I need to breakout my reference books and dig into this... i would like to replicate the fiochi factory loads - i think were at about 250 ft pounds using 98 gn DEWC.

Also wonder if any new recipes exist that may squeeze out more FPS and not increase pressure...

Regards

Being rimless, I don't think the 30 Carbine would work too well. But then again, I've never tried it.

Hi

thanks - a good point that did escape me, maybe they meant use a 30 carbine die to form nagant shells or 32-20 shells, and not actually use 30 carbine ammo...

I did buy the lee die set and i did not find 32-20 brass at this time but found the nagant brass so i ordered 100 cartridges of the 7.62 and i ordered 98 gn hollow base wad cutters. if i can get 5 shots per cartridge i figure reloading will coast about $.25 per shot rather than $.75 for factory ammo.

I got to thinking maybe for small game hunting the flat faced wad cutter would work as good or better than hollow point which may expand and destroy excess meat?

Interesting it seems the factory ammo and bullets for the gun are double ended wadcutters.
Why did they use flat faced bullet instead of round nose for military ammo? hollow points are outlawed for military.

I think maybe flat nose makes more of a cut than a puncture and bleeds out more? just my theory.. and given the load velocities and pressures, maybe i can make a more accurate lead wadcutter that will work for both hunting and target shooting and not have to buy hollow points at all for the gun. or if it end up leading up too much then use the plated or jacketed DEWC.

Another load i would be interested in would be a snake load using small shot.

Thank you for your reply. I will report back if I learn anything..
