Just pretty much finished my latest project and was able to do a bit of load testing this morning with the following results. All loads used 139 gr Hornaday Interlocks. Velocities are 3 shot averages out of a 24" barrel.

52.5 H4350, 2924 fps
53.0 " , 2974 "
53.5 " , 3003 "
54.0 " , 3028 "
54.5 " , 3058 "
55.0 " , 3095 "

42.5 IMR3031, 2704 fps
43.0 " , 2731 "
43.5 " , 2750 "
44.0 " , 2792 "

What I found interesting was the fact that Ackley's data showed higher velocities using 3031 and slower with 4350. My results were opposite. Accuracy was good and there were no signs of high pressure with any of these loads in my rifle (VZ 24).

I thought they'd be pretty hot, too.
FWIW, Ackley shows 58grs of 4350 for 140s in his book. Odd thing, he shows a velocity of 2774.

Intresting..

What twist is your bbl and do you plan on trying some heavier bullets?
Id be intrested in seeing what sort of velocities you can get with 160 gn pills..

Barrel is a #2 Douglas, 1-9 twist. I will be trying some 160s and 170s down the road.

What do you expect from an AI cartridge? Besides, he's using Ackley data. What other purpose for the AI cartridges is there besides to load as hot as one can get away with?

If practical was even in the vocabulary, then the number 280 would crop up. It's that way with all AI cartridges, IMO.

None of the data is Ackley's, it's my data. I mentioned Ackley's data for comparison. It's pretty well known that Ackley was somewhat interested in snake oil as well as gunbuilding and wildcatting.

I shoot an almost standard 7x57, however I have a long 06 magazine and a very long throat so that I can seat a 175 gr. Nolser or Hornady 284 depth..I use only H414 as it is the fastest and most accurate powder I have used...I can get 2934 FPS with a 160 gr. Nosler and I'm not quite to max..I won't give the grain as I fear someone would stick it in a standard chamber with a deeply seated bullet..My gun, in effect, is a 7x57 Imp but I went a different route..BTW the Brno 21 and 22s are so set up..The long throat has never been a problem with me and my 7x57s and Brnos have shot 130 Speers as well as they shot 175 gr. Hornadys..

try some slower powders like h-4831-sc the h-414 mentioned and rl-19 [my favorite in my x57 ackley] and in my x57 icl which also has the douglas 5r rifled bbl.
i started at 52 grs with the 4831 and 4831 sc and was in the 55 gr+ area with both.
i settled back down with rl-19 rem 9-1/2 primer and the hornady 139 i-lock at 2850 at 10' and have stuck with it for all my big game hunting.

My 7x57 is on a 26 inch Shilen med. contour fluted barrel, shooting 140gr TSX bullets 51gr of reloder 19 puts them all in a nice tight cluster. My action is a 95 Chillean mauser. FS

I have had my best luck with IMR 4831 and 175 Hornady SP's. They are only running 2625 fps. Mine is a nice little custom Mauser with a 24" Shilen barrel. Still working on lighter bullet loads, but RL 19 shows lots of promise with 150's. I have a ton of 150 gr bullets, so hope to find a nice shooting load running around 2850-2900 fps.
Took a nice 4x4 buck this fall with the 175 at only 50 yds. Neck shot and he went down after running 40 yds.
