I just finished building a rifle on a Savage Action I purchased... I got a stock from the Forum Classifieds and ordered a 26 inch barrel in the Savage heavy target/varmint barrel profile..

I built this to copy a friends 308 in the 10 FP set up, but wanted the 26in barrel, as I can have it shortened if need be...

here are a few of the initial loads I chronographed, with the idea of these conforming to one of the scopes earmarked for it...

this one is to be used for shots at 200 to 250 yds max...

1. 30 grains of H 4198, LR Rifle primer
a). 100 gr: 2675 fps
b). 139 gr: 2408 fps

2. 30 grains IMR 4198, LR Rifle Primer
a). 100 gr: 2724 fps
b). 139 gr: 2445 fps

3. 25 grains of SR 4759
a). 100 gr: 2601 fps
b). 139 gr: 2284 fps

Bullets used were the Hornady 100 grain HP and the 139 grain SP...

These are velocities I was looking for with both the 100 and 139 grain bullets..

all charges were below what is listed for max charge for this cartridge and those bullet weights...

I was projecting 2600 or so fps for the 100 grain HP, which will open up on deer and antelope sized game quite nicely at this MV..

for the 139 grain Bullet I was looking for 2300 to 2400 fps for the same application, and this bullet will also open quite nicely on those sized animals at the 200 to 250 yd distances...

Recoil was of course light...

I have the same charges load up to test this week, but utilizing 120 and 130 grain bullets..

will post those results as they are available..

this is going to be another handy cartridge and rifle... I am also testing the 308 of a friends at the same time in the same platform...

my personal preference is leaning toward the 7/08.. glad I ordered that chambering instead of the 308...

Light recoil loads are fun to shoot! Those loads are very light - nothing wrong with that. It'll be interesting to hear how they perform on game.

I have a 93 mauser in 7x57 I shoot a 139 bullet at 2450 in that keeping the pressure down in that action. It dosen't have any trouble killing things.

I realy like the 7mm-08 round. I have model seven stainless synthetic.

I have a short action savage that I would like to put 7mm-08 barrel on.

34-36 grs of 4895 is another good one.
i use it in the 7x57 and 257 bob case.
in the bob with the rem 86 gr bullat it hits 2400fps in my 22" bbl and is scary accurate at 100 yds.
36 in the 7x57 acts like a 7-30 waters good thing i have a bunch of the old nosler flat base for it.

My 20 1/8th COntender barrel in 7mm Bullberry sends 139/140 grainers downrange in the 2450 fps range and has served me well on both deer and hogs.

Given the correct bullet choice for the velocity and application, the medium velocity cartridges such as this turn those standard cup and core bullets into projectiles that perform like premiums.

This is my understanding and has been my findings too! I have a long way to go to know and understand bullet performance accross the spectrum.

Yes, I can confirm that, too, for the .338 and 9.3 mm.
