anybody got a good load to share for the 4'' redhawk? My reloads havent panned out yet, I shoot the factory 240 gr from wallyworld(30 bucks..ouch)better than I can load. I got some 240 gr cast, a light load recommended that someone had good results would be helpfull. thanks
Tell us what loads you have tried (handloads) and then what bullets and powders do you have available. We can all go from that starting point.
10.5 grains of AA #5 works for me with 429421 cast from ACWWs. Accurate in two guns and light on recoil. Watch out for a double charge as there is a lot of case volume with is load which is below AA's recommended starting load.
14.5-16.0 grains of HS7 may provide a load you like.
18-21 grains of 2400 give me some good groups under either 42921 or the Ranch Dog 250 grain RNFPPB.

I have used 19 gr of 2400 behind the 240 grain cast bullet for years. Hogs/deer good killer. Doesnt kick in the short barrel like the Elmer Keith load of 22 gr of 2400. That one is brutal in a 4". Have shot the above 19gr in 4" Smiths and 4 5/8 " Rugers. Got the load from George Nonte and Mel Tappen in the 70s. I I need more I get out the 405 Win in my 1895 Winchester. Not the normal macho load, who cares?

I have a 4 5/8" Redhawk (shortened from 7 1/2") and like 6.5g of TrailBoss with 240g cast bullets. It's basically a 44 Spcl. load but accurate and pleasant to shoot. 6.5g of TB will fill 2/3rds of a 44 mag case. For 240g jacketed bullets I've had good results with 18.5g of Bluedot. There are endless good load choices for the 44 mag. Enjoy!
John Tappen's load of a 240gr LSWC and 10.0 gr of Unique works well out of my both my pistols and rifle. Not a hairy chested macho load and I haven't killed any game with it but it's done the job at sillhoute and IdpA shoots and out of the same gun t'boot!

Don't have a Redhawk, but a S$W 629 Mountain Gun with a 4" bbl. I use a 240 grain cast bullet and 9 gr Universal Clays for about 950 FPS. Good accuracy and pleasant to shoot compared to full power loads.
