Any suggestions on where to find some data for this? I now have 3 boxes of these bullets, and am interested in using them as very light training loads in teaching my wife to shoot the 338 well. Have used SR 4759 in my 270 for a similar purpose, but can't find a reloading book for 338 bullets this light.

I have used this recipe for years and it is extremely accurate in both of my 338's. Nosler 180 BT, 66.0 grains of Re15, Fed 210M primer, Winchester or Federal cases, 3.350" OAL. The velocity is about 3000 fps and is very consistent. I have been shooting sub 1" groups at 200 meters from both of my rifles. BTW, I tested the bullets in phone books out ot 200 meters in 50 meter increments and found them to be very consistent expanders averaging 70% retention. This is better than most 200 grain and heavier bullets such as Hornady's 225 SST's. Good luck, Steve

Thanks, Steve. Sounds like a good load, which I will use. I'm still going to tinker a bit with a light load for my wife, however. Something around 30 grains of SR 4759.

HT: The following loads can be found in the Nosler #5 reloading manual. These are only some of those listed. Rldr15: 68.0 grs. (Max) 3189 fps 64.0 grs. (Start) 3017 fps 68.0 = most accurate for that powder VVN150: 67.0 grs. (Max) 3149 fps 63.0 grs. (Start) 3002 fps 67.0 = most accurate charge This POWDER most accurate tested IMR-4350 75.0 grs. (Max) 3260 fps 71.0 grs. (Start) 3075 fps 75.0 = most accurate charge H-4350 76.0 grs. (Max) 3281 fps 72.0 grs. (Start) 3112 fps 74.0 = most accurate charge Rldr19 78.0 grs. (Max) 3120 fps 74.0 grs. (Start) 2954 fps 76.0 = most accurate charge There are several others but this covers most of them. Hope this helps some. Bear in Fairbanks

Thanks, Mr. Bear. After seeing your response, I went out and bought the new Nosler manual today, which helps with loads for their 180 grain bullet. Doesn't provide, however, data for reduced loads. I'll fool around and find something. Sure have grown to like that SR 4759 for teaching people to handle and shoot large guns. Light loads, lots of familiarity with the weapon, MUCH reduced chance of developing a flinch, and when they're ready, the full charge loads for hunting aren't much of a stretch. (See my wife's final exam, below). Seems that H4895 also has some characterstics that provide for these "youth and women training loads" as well. 60% of the max load for that cartridge provides something like 1500 - 1800 fps velocities. Like I said, I'll fiddle with it until I find a comfortable compromise. (as with most things) [image]http://www.shutterfly.com/view/picture_dt.jsp?state=67b0de21bbfa6221e465&idx=5[/image]

Elleguello: I didn't read the post properly, however, this is my light load for practice using a 338 as it is a lot more comfortable than using full charge loads with a 225 grain bullet but obviously isn't what was asked for. BTW, the trajectory is the same as with the 225 Nosler Accubond out to 400 meters. Steve
