I had heard about these awhile back and for some reason I keep thnking it might be something I want to try. You load a 224 cal bullet into this nylon sabot and press it into a 30 caliber case. Has anyone ever used these? How did they shoot? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks Most people are link slinkies, Basically useless but fun to push down the stairs.

Never tried loading my own, but did try the Rem. factory 55-grain .224" sabot loads in a .30/'06. Group size was about 3X what that particular rifle would do with .308" size bullets. Gave it up..... "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

What 30 caliber are you looking for? The are usually some Remington sabot loads on Gunbroker for 30-06 and 30-30.

Maybe a waste of time and money, but that's why we do this. The same could be said for having kids...

Nylon sabots are problematic as they won't stand up to high pressues without blowing through the base. Also, neck tension is hard to control as they are much softer than a bullet. My best inexpensive sabots are anodized aluminum and held to less than .050 over bullet diameter. My 1 in 8 twist 260 rem shoots 75 gr Amax .224s to 0.35 MOA at 3500 fps. They are seated using a collet neck sizer after the round is primed and charged. The petals are designed to ride on the lands so they can support the forward section fo the bullet. Since they extend past the ogive terminus, the are thicker there and the rotational force pulls them off cleanly with less disruption to the base on exiting the bbl than a paper patch. These are cold pressed from thin aluminum tubing and then the petal slots are cut and finally anodized. If you have to ask how much they cost, you can't afford them.

Hey Rootbeer, Been meaning to compliment your humor for some time now. As much as I enjoy teaching kids shooting and how to hunt, I can also think of a few that were certainly a waste of time. I just find it difficult to believe a man of your wit is in "NY", or Heil-ery country as we call it down here.
