Has anyone tried the 44 mag factory crimp on 444 ammo?

Not the pistol crimp die, but the rifle factory crimp die works great. Lyle "I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. I would remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue." Barry M Goldwater.

YUMAN, thanks, I was not aware that pistol and rifle factory crimps were different.

they are very different, the rifle type uses collets. furthermore, the die is actuated by the baseplate, so length matters. the goos news is they are cheap enough to buy all you need.

Bottleneck pistol cartridges also use collets, but are based on the collet neck sizer die body, instead of the rifle FCD body. They also contact the shellholder for collet activation. Straight wall FCDs are nothing more than a taper/roll crimper (as appropriate for caliber) with a carbide sizing ring at the bottom to iron out any wrinkling/buckling of the case as the cartridge is withdrawn from the die. I'm not as impressed with them as with the rifle and bottleneck pistol FCDs. Andy Pray, Vote, Shoot, Reload.
