I just returned form the range where I was testing some handloads for my .270 win - M70 featherweight.

I had worked up a load to use for spring bear season which opens soon using 140 grain accubonds, IMR4831 and WLRM primer.

I was shooting some 3-shot groups at 100 meters and checking for POI at the same time in case the scope needed adjustment.

I fired a couple groups at 100 meters and they measured the following:

1st - 0.817 inch
2nd - 0.786 inch

These are typical groups with a decent load from this rifle.

I then moved out to my 200 meter target and fired a group. You can imagine my surprise when I measured it at 0.317 inch.

I thought - no way, just a fluke. I fired another group and not as good but still 0.589 inch.

Is it normal when using accubonds for the group size to shrink from 100 yards-meters to 200 yards-meters.

I seem to have noticed the same thing happening in my 30-06 with the 180 grain accubonds.

Is this due to bullet wobble, yaw, etc. and the bullet needs a greater distance to lay-down or could it be something else.

The one person I've talked to about this so far said there is no way this is possible and my groups just have to be larger at 200 than 100.

Can anyone explain this?

i'd say their typical it is a accurate bullet, but with your tighter groups give yourself some-more credit thats fine shooting indeed, thats what happens when everything click's together, yes some bullets relax at longer ranges good point, your shooting is consistent, thats why your seeing similar results with your 06,rember that old saying prattice makes perfect? thats all we can hope to strive for but we're human, some times we can stack em , most of the time we can''t go figure, good luck bear hunting, and welcome to this forum Smiler regards jjmp

I use the 140 Accubonds in my savage .270 WSM. Mine act typical. Last time at the range I was shooting .25 MOA at 100 yards. I moved out to 200 yards and shot some .5 MOA groups. I would say what is happening with you is not typical of Accubonds. One thing that I and others have noticed is that they shoot best at least .050-.060" off the lands. They seem to like a bit of a jump for best accuracy.
