Does anyone have some good light loads for the .300 win mag? Could I use .30-06 loads in the .300 win mag case?

what your thinking of doing is dangerous. It is believed to cause gun blow ups and other problems( cracked skulls, eye loss, etc).Stick to listed loads or get another ,smaller, rifle :-) ****************************************************************** SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM ***********

As JB said, it could be dangerous; a hot 30-06 load can only fill 65-70% of a 300 WM brass.

There's really no need to use 06 loadings, A 300win mag START load will pretty well equal a middle of the road 30-06 loading. Just stick with 300WM mag data and just find an accurate start load. After all you don't have to load to the max. ---------------------------------------- If you waste your time a talkin' to the people who don't listen To the things that you are sayin' who do you thinks gonna hear And if you should die explainin' how the thing they complain about Or the things they could be changing who do you thinks gonna care Waylon Jennings

Not necessarily so. The following loads were published in HANDLOADER MAGAZINE #44 July-August 1973 in an article by John Wooters. To Duplicate Bullet wt: 30-06 .308 Win. 150 gr. 62.5 gr./4895 60.0.gr. 4895 30-40 Krag 30-30 Win. 56.0gr. 4064 45.0 gr. 4064 180 gr. 30-06 .308 Win. 57.0gr. 3031 55.0 gr. 4064 30-40 Krag 50.0 gr. 4895 I've tried a couple and they do work. Note the faster than normal burning powders for the loads. Paul B.

There is confusion here, both in the original post and in the replies to that post. There are actually two things being asked, and said, here that should not be confused: 1. Whether there are loads for the .300 Win Mag, loaded in .300 Win Mag brass, that will duplicate the velocity (and thus the power) of 30-06 loads. This is not only very possible, but can be done with no danger whatsoever. 2. Whether it is OK to fire 30-06 loads -- in 30-06 brass -- in a .300 Win Mag rifle. This is very dangerous and should not be attempted. "How's that whole 'hopey-changey' thing working out for ya?"

I've been shooting a 30-06 power load in my .300 Weatherby, 65grs of AA-4064 and a 150gr Nosler

The .30-06 fan in me says "ditch the magnum and get the .30-06"! Selmerfan

Well there are some comments from guys I respect on here.. so I won't respond negatively to their postings saying this is a dangerous practice... Just look at your reload manuals... Using powders like 3031, 4895, 4064, there are tons of loads you can get that are at 30/06 velocities....even like RL 7 and Rl 12 and 15 info is out there.. heck I load my 300 Win Mag at times to velocities as low as 30/30 equivalents or 300 Savage equivalents... just don't try it using typically used 300 mag powders, like 4350, 4831, 7828 etc.... Heck you can even use cast bullet loads in the 300 Mag for velocities down to well under 2000 fps without using fillers.... I'd rather see anyone trying to make a 300 Mag into an 06,.instead of someone trying to make an 06 into a 300 Mag...

The 300 win mag is probably the most versatile caliber in the world. As noted above....it can be a 308, 30-06 or a 300 win mag....whatever the handloader decides. Have you noticed that remington is now doing the same with factory ammo for the 300 rum.....you can buy the equivalent of a 30-06, 300 win mag, or 300 rum ALL IN FACTORY LOADS. There are plenty of loads out there in manuals. I have used RE7 with a published load to do 2650 out of my tikka 300 win mag with decent accuracy (150 grainers). Also as noted above....start loads for the 300 win mag will duplicate the 30-06---use faster powders like 4064 or 4320.
