Mark, I always ate all my veggies. Mom and Dad just liked you better. I got the patch in the mail today. Thanks. Jim

Mark, I thoroughly do NOT recommend this for casual use, Brian Enos told me he used to hold flashlights above the chrono while Rob Leatham shot, when indoors. But you might experiment with this idea . My chrony has clocked rubber bands indoors with a similar setup, I have not had a chance to use it at the range... Travis F.

The main problem with lights and a chronograph is that our lights operate at 60hz. Our eyes normally don't notice it but the chonograph does. It's worse with Flouresants than with incandesants. The duffuser should help do the job, and I've seen a rig that used an incandesant bulb above each photoreceptor. The diffuser sounds like the best idea........DJ

dj... With incandescents, it's not a problem. The filament can't respond fast enough to make any difference. Fluorescents, OTH, are like 120 Hz strobes, firing on each half cycle. Probably the best light source, though, is LED's. The high intensity ones for the near infra-red probably match the sensitivity of the photocells best. Those are easy to run off a battery.

Denton, good info. LED's are also easy to run off batteries and last forever Hmmmmmmm........DJ

Mark, I'm just a little curious as to why anyone would have a need to chronograph at night? What are you up to? Jim

Jim, What a great forum, I finally found the long-lost brother who was sold off to the wandering gypsy band when he wouldn't eat all his broccoli! But the main reason is that when it is light outside I'm usually too busy doing other stuff to monkey around chronographing loads. Sad as it is to admit, much of my time is spent on other things and sometimes the only free time I have is when every one else is in bed. At least my wife is understanding when the '06 goes off!
