Am I the only one to notice that almost every online retailer is sold out of every name brand of Match Large Rifle primers? Is this because of the OSHA scare? Should I actually start stocking up, or just let this blow over?

I've noticed the scarcity of primers for close to a year now. Some say it's due to the military buying everything, some say the manufacturers are aiming their efforts toward the military's needs, etc. I'm not sure exactly why they've become scarce, but I think the component whores may have something to do with it

Dealer across the street from me has tons of Federal primers, but match primers are few and far between. Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps.

The shortage has been going on for a while. I think it really started upwards of a year ago. I've heard that DOD is purchasing something like four times the small arms ammo it did three years ago, so the manufacturers are just overwhelmed with demand. In the future, my stockpile will greatly exceed what it is now. Since I don't do any high volume shooting this hasn't been a problem for me, but I don't want to switch primers once I have a load worked up. And not being able to get what should be readily available is a PITA to say the least. LWD

Just today I bought ALL the CCI large pistol primers that Sportsmans Warehouse here in Ogden had. 1000 for about $24. Thats all of them I've been able to find locally! The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

maybe the shortage is caused be folks hoarding them.....

Whatever the reason for the shortage, I have decided to buy some primers in bulk, mostly for the extra savings, but it will still be nice to have on hand. FWIW Widners has quite a few Wolf primers and some CCI primers on hand.

Keep looking guys, I think they will show up soon. My local gunstore has been short on primers but suddenly has anything you might want. He has Federal, CCI, Remington, Winchester, and plenty of match primers. One thing that may have been holding back the supply is that Federal and CCI have both changed their packaging. Possibly the new color schemes on the boxes held things up for a little while. I just bought another brick of Fed215M primers for $29.99. R Flowers

i could be wrong, but i doubt that the war has anything to do with it. i don't recall hearing about any shortage of primers during the vietnam war and i am sure that there was a hell of a lot more shooting going on then.
