Try 120gr Nosler partitons with 49.5gr of IMR-7828. Seat them long.

I thought for mule deer you needed one of them super hyper velocity .3217865390, 154.7789 grain spitzer, semi boattail, convoluted, partial cannelure, trophy semi bonded ballistic tip, non explosive bullet? clap rotflmo

EekerMake sure you are using a well made premium bullet preferably 120gr. At close range many of the cup and core bullets will flat explode at 3000 to 3100 fps.

Placed a 120 gr. bullet from a 25-06 just right at 50 yards. Didn't find that deer for 6 hrs., temperature about 70 degrees, and he was still alive laying in some sage brush. Had a gaping crater a littl below mid body just behind the right leg. thumbdown A 117gr RN from a .257 or 250-3000 would have gotten the job done nicely. Roll Eyes

The 117 grain Sierra Pro Hunter and Re-22 are a proven combo for both accuracy and terminal performance on deer-sized game. Keep the velocity in the mild range -- 2900-2950 fps is plenty fast -- and the bullet will perform exceedingly well.

If you like speed but don't want to worry about bullet integrity, try a Barnes 100 grs (T)TSX. I load the TSX in my .257 Wby, and the high muzzle velocity makes for a very flat trajectory.

Close???

Long story. I once killed a mule deer with my knife. Stabbed him twice and ended up slitting his throat.

According to Hornady, their 120gr HP Interlock is made with the 25/06 and 257Roy and elk in mind. I've shot quite a few deer with it and the only bullet I've ever recovered traversed about 18" of deer and ended by breaking the off-side shoulder and coming to rest under the skin. Looked like a picture in a Hornday magazine add. Great bullet, if Partitions won't work in your rifle. 120gr Speer Hot Core is good too!
