What is a good "all-around" bullet for deer in 270 winchester. It will used on deer from 100-200+ lbs. from 30-300 yds. Thankyou for your input.

Try either the 140 Hornandy or 140 Partition.

I prefer the 130's for whitetails, but the 140's will work fine, too. For deer, you don't really need a "premium" bullet, although the Nosler Partition will do nicely. Other "premiums" may be too slow to expand on what is not really a very big animal. I use the out-of-production Nosler Solid Base 130's in my .270. Nosler Ballistic Tips, Sierra's, or any other 130 which shoots accuratly in your gun will take any whitetail on the planet. For whitetails, place the premium on accuracy, not penetration.

130 sierra game king in 270, the middle wieght in any other caliber.

For my gun Hornady spire point 130 or 140 gr bullets are the most accurate. They also penatrate, expand and stay together. Fuzz

I use Hornady 130 grain spire points in my Ruger m77 in 270.For my Ruger #1 in 270 I use 140 grain Noslers.These are the most accurate bullets that I have found for these guns.I have used these bullets on many deer with great sucess.

I'll vote for the 130s for deer only. If they will shoot in your rifle there ain't no flies on the Corelokts.

Try some RL22, F-210m primers, and the 130 Hornady SP. They have shot and performed well in every 270 I have tried them in.

130 XLC, RL 19, Fed 210. Once you shoot game with an "X", you'll never go back to the messy conventional bullets. Gives new meaning to "clean kill". Sure, they aren't needed. Neither is a scope, a sling, or Goretex boots. FWIW, Dutch.

For deer of that size 130's are fine. use the one that shoots best for you and be happy.

I'll second the recomendation for the 130 X bullets. I also use the 120's in my 270 and they work great too. In my experience, the X bullets take a little more experimenting than other types of bullets to get them to group well, but when you find the combination that works, you will never be let down by the terminal performance!

I have had good luck shooting Mule Deer, Elk, and Russian boar with my .270 shooting a Barnes XLC "X" bullet. Has not let me down yet, and all animals were dispatched with one shot.

Mads,I usally buy the 140 grain partitions locally.I have ordered them from Midway USA in the past,but I do not know if they still carry them or not.

Terry I made a mistake.I have only been reloading for the Ruger#1 in 270 for a short time.After reading your post I went and checked and my bullets are not 140 grain partitions but 150 grain instead.Thanks for correcting me.I feel like such an ass now.

Jan was at our factory this morning to pick up some 110 gr HVs for his 270. Sends his regards and will bring you around to us when you are out here again. He will have some good comparisons with the 110 HV and 130 and 150 jacketed bullets after the weekend. They are going to use them on kudu and they are pretty sceptical at this stage
