I just got invited to a hunt this weekend and i want to use this bullet that i have some left from. Does anyone have reloading data for this ?
I would like to use Norma MRP if possible, otherwise some Vihtavouri Powder. Please include Cartridge overall lenght.

Thanks from a guy in a hurry

My Nosler manual lists, for their 120 grain bullets, the following charges of Vihtavouri powders as being "most accurate."

N150, 34.0 grains

N160, 42.5 grains

I don't have any Norma data, but maybe someone else can help. If I recall, the MRP is a bit slower than Alliant Reloder 22 (made by Bofors).

That would mean you'd have to use nearly a case full to get the 120 moving... Check out a good source for data, of course...

My guess is that the N160 would be your best bet.

Best of luck on your hunt.

This isn't really what you were looking for (wrong powders), but I'll give you mine anyway. My Sako L691 likes the Barnes 120 grain XLC bullets on top of 50 grains of Reloader 19. COL is 3.055", about .005" off the lands. I don't have a chronograph, but it's darn accurate. The Barnes manual lists a range of 47.5 gr. (2872fps) to 51.5 (3105fps). My 50 grain load is pretty hot and should not be used in older Swedes. It is safe in my newer Sako, but I wouldn't use it in older military guns.

Here's what I have from Vihtavouri: N150 32.7-36.3, N160 44.7-48.4, N165 46.8-79.3, N550 39.5-43.4 (fastest load at 2830fps).

Good luck developing a load on the fly. Even better luck on the hunt!

Thanks !

What i really had no idea about was the overall cartridge length.
Does anyone else out there have a recipe for this bullet with Norma powders ?

Hi Tippex!

MRP is usually equal to Reloader 22. I have used 49 grains of MRP behind an uncoated 120 grain x with overall length 78 mm in my 6,5x55. Lapua cases! It was maximum, or at least became maximum after a few shots, as they totally fowled my barrel. Never made them shoot straight, tried vv N-150, N-160, Norma MRP and 204. Seated the bullet long, short, different primers etc. That same rifle shoots everything else to 1 MOA, but not the Barnes. Are you using the coated, blue, bullets? They may work better, I dont know. I would rather by some factory ammo if I needed to go hunting in a hurry, handloading is not something to be hurried...

Hi guys,
thank`s for helping !

Just recieved a mail from barnes helpdesk.
"We dont recommend an overall length
because we do recommend to seat your bullet .050" off the lands"
So i guess ill have to bring my big and heavy .308 Steyr Ssg instead of the handy little Tikka.
Thats life when you work long hours...

Thanks again for the help
