| If it feeds well, what will the problem be? Your cast bullet must have a short ogive, which brings the .358 bullet too close the the rifling. One fix is to ream out the throat/lead. But in reality, you have no problem. I assume you are not using hot loads; seating bullets deeper does affect pressure. |

I don't trust a lever rifle round without a crimp in place. |

Never even thought about crimping for my savage 99. |

| Wish I had thought of that one! The OP is mesmerized by book values of COL; In reality they mean nothing. Except when they do; we learn about each rifle and it's idiosyncrasies. Case in point, (not about crimping), is about COL. I have a 257 Roberts with a throat so long I can seat bullets out with just .1 inch of bullet depth and I use 25-06 data. Magazine is plenty long enough. But the book says..... ignore that. |

As the OP let me clarify my issue with COL...I have a lot of IMR3031 on hand which increases quickly in pressure. Even as little as 3 or 4 grs makes some loads go from min. to max., add in compressing that load of 3031 with bullet seating an I #1 do not want to blow off an extremity #2 deal with excessive lead. I know all the pressure signs, I know accuracy issues...simply want to be safe |

| If I am reading this right, you should not be loading anyhere near max loads using a cast bullet!
My load with a Lyman 358315 200+- grains was 35 gr, Imr 3031 crimped (sometimes)in the crimp groove. Vel. 1900+fps. Marlin M336
