Just shot my new rifle today and it was the most accurate big game rifle I've owned to date.I am really happy with the results.Best load was again with Vit 560.Got 3137 fps using 180g tsx molly coated, lapua cases, fed 215m primers.Three holes touched at 200yds.Groups got tighter as I broke her in.Didn't believe in breaking in before, unless this barrel responded differently. This factory Winchester rifle shot the tsx bullets more tighter than the Sako with the Krieger barrel I tried last time.It did not like the swift A frames at all.It shot them a foot apart where the Sako/krieger shot in 4 inches. So until know I have not had a 300wm shoot as accurate as this Winchester. The recoil was less than the Sendero I have even with faster loads.I am scared of the scope when I shoot Fed.HE in the Sendero.Shot faster loads today and she did not come back at me as much.Thank you Winchester you gave me a whole lot for my money.

I have a Model 70 Classis stainless in a 300 WM that I load with 78 g. H4831 with a 180 g Accubond. I have shot 4's with it, but notice that as the number of groups shot increased the recoil was affecting my shooting. Put a Vais muzzle brake, the new one, on and the groups returned to awesome sizes. Some of the Model 70's are wonderful shooters!!!!

My Dale Goens pre-64 M-70 likes Rem Brass, Federal 215 Mag primers, 78.0 gr RL 22, 180 TSX.

Chronograph averages 3150 fps, no pressure signs, primer pockets still tight, etc...

This rifle compliments my synthetic .300 Wby M-70 as both rifles shoot the TSX at 3150 fps (although the Wby uses RL-25)

shootaway, Goens was a custom gun maker out of New Mexico, I believe. He passed away this summer. He was quite a craftsman.

Both my rifles will place three shots touching, if I do my part.

Mine's a custom gun , M70 Classic stainless, with a Heavy Krieger Barrel.

Graf Brass
83.5 gr H1000
WLRM Primer
3150 fps

I got little clover-leafs @ 100 yds with the 180 TSX, and 3 shots in about 2 inches @ 630 yds. +12.5 MOA past my 100 yd zero

At 1030, the fishtailing wind had picked up, and altough the group was about 9 inches wide, vertical wasn't much more than an inch. + 33.5 MOA past my 100 yd zero.

They are the small copper smudges across the middle of the steel. They don't splat like lead-core bullets. The group at the left with the quarter is the Berger 210 VLDs, it was shot just before sunset, as the wind had calmed down completely. They shoot great, too! less than 2-1/4 inches @ 1030 yards, holy shit.

I have seen a couple others post very good results with the TSX in that 3150 fps range. Looks like that's where they like to run.

No, it started life as a Classic Stainless Sporter- skinny barrel, and cheap plastic stock.

Gunsmith trued it, re barreled it, glass- and - pillar- bedded it in a McMillan A-3 stock.

My buddy has one of the Winchester Sharpshooters from the Winchester Custom Shop, it's a Schneider Barrell, with an H-s Precision Stock, it will shoot bugholes @ 200 yards. Great gun, I don't like the H-S stock, glad I got the McMillan.

I really like the 300 WSM also in Win 70. My favorite loads are:

IMR 4831 @ 69.0 (highest Vel 3200 FPS)
165 Barnes TSX
WLRM Primer in WW Brass

W760 @ 68.0
180 Fail Safe
WLRM Primer in WW Cases

May I ask what cartridge O.A.L you are finding best with the 180 TSX in 300 Win Mag.

I am hoping to utilise the same bullet when my Vanguard sub-moa arrives. I know the TSX will stand some fine tuning for a particular rifle as I have great accuracy results from my 270 Win seated app .030" from the lands.

I just wondered if there was a preferred seating range or if it is comparatively length insensitive bullet in 180 grain persuasion

I went .050" off the lands.I shot all the rounds I loaded, therefore I don't have the OAL right now.If I remember correctly I read somewhere that Barnes recommended .050" for best accuracy.I am assuming That I will get the same results with the loads that I already made for hunting and those are magazine lentgh.I still have the ones I loaded for my Sako and those are 3.46".The ones that I used in the Winchester and put up results for were shorter, somewhere around 3.3".I hope this is of help.I just recieved my second 300Win Mag in mod70 yesterday.I'll use this one to see if I get the same groups when loaded for different OAL lengths.I am trying not to put that many rounds down the barrel as my experience has shown accuracy at long distance is short lived.

I do all my shooting and hunting out of 8 power.I have found that with this power you can do anything, including benchrest accuracy out to 200yds on sand bags. They would probably be a little tighter if I had a scope with greater power, but I am not shooting in competition.I would regularly shoot in one hole at 200 with an 8 power scope and 308 caliber.
