This may sound like a dumb question, but here goes. I bought a stainless Ruger #1 in 458 Lott last week. I've had a couple of 458 win mags over the years, sold them and always regretted doing so. I have plenty of 458 wm cases, and a fair amount of bullets. I decided to make my own 458 Lott cases. So I fore-formed 375 H&H cases, easy enough to do. Then trimmed, sized, etc. I have loaded 10 of these cases using Trail Boss powder, and some 400 grain Speer bullets I have. I fired one to see what the velocity was-1316fps- and to test penetration. I hope to get to the range in a day or so to try them out. My feeling is that since the cases are not 100% formed from the fire-forming-an examination of the one round I shot shows this to be true-then I should not expect much accuracy with these rounds until they have been fired once with powder and bullet. I've been thinking of this as just another step in the case making process. However, I could be wrong. So, if anyone has ever tested the first load after fire- forming for accuracy, I'm interested to know what the results were. Thanks in advance. | ||
