I am having a problem with cracked necks in my .25 WSSM cases. I had two test loads of 18 cartridges each and when I was finished I ended up with six cases with cracked necks. Some had single cracks and others had two cracks. One had three cracks. At this rate I will be going through quite afew cases. Oh I forgot to say the cases were all new Winchester cases and one once fired win case.

I reload for my .300 WSM and have not experienced this problem with those cases. Is this something unique with the smaller cases?

I have been loading since the late fifties and have not had this problem with any other reloads. I have had split military cases that were old (.30 Carbine ammo), but never commereical or reloads.

What the hell is going on or am I doing something wrong with these WSSM cases? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you got a batch of brass with either no annealing or improper annealing.

I reload for the 223wssm and also find more split necks on this case than any others. I get 3-4 loads per case, and I load them to max, so I kind of expect short case life.

My next step will be to anneal the cases, and I think this will help.

I reload the 243 wssm and the 300 wsm. Winchester brass without any problems so far. use max published loads in the 300 wsm and have had some problems with consistency with some bullets. Will proably back down for better accuracy. The 243 wssm starts out so fast that I have been inclined to use very tame loads and have had wonderful accuracy with everything that I have tried. Life is so much simpler acouple of grains below max. It's taken along time to accept that.

Call Win and tell them you have a bad batch of brass.
