Well I hate to say it but yes I have fired factory ammo through my 22-250's!!! But only in desperation.. I was on a day and a half p-dog hunt two years ago..... Took almost 500 of my reloads with me.... after the first full day of shooting I was down to 37 rounds. firing through three weepons!!! So that evening I went and purchased cheap winchester rounds...only used these in one gun. But hey when one tends to need ammo, he needs it very bad!!! Make every shot Count!!!

There is that browning .270 that I bought used. The previous owner was not a handloader. Then there is that good old P-14 in .303 british. The rest may have had factory ammo fired through them before I ripped the barrells off of them.

I am ashamed to say that one of my current rifles has been fed factory ammo. I purchased a Tikka M695, in .25-06 Rem., at a gunshop that was closing down. This was a new to me chambering, and I didn't have any dies, brass, or bullets. I was 100 miles from home, and the gunshop had their Winchester ammo marked way down, so I bought a few boxes, to zero the scope, and to get some once fired brass. There I said it, and I feel better The only other time I purchased factory ammo, since I started hand loading, was for a miserable T/C Encore, that would not group. I called T/C and asked what they shoot for test ammo, and went out a purchased a box, to prove the Encore had issues. It did, and it went back to T/C, and they got it shooting "within specs". It went up for sale. T/C's within spec's didn't match my idea of "MOA accurate". But that is another story. Even my shotguns have been weened from factory ammo! I've never fired a single factory round through my .338 WM. (it's just too expensive). Hand loads work great though. mike

if I had all the gear to roll my own from teh get go, I would not purchase factory ammo. But, if I was waiting on stuff in the mail, and absolutely HAD to shoot it, I would buy a box or 2, as long as it was something cheap, and not a 416 Rigby or something like that, $50 or $100 a box. Besides, its not like you would have a genuine shooting session doing barrel break in on a new rifle, shoot, scrub, shoot, scrub. You get the point.

Gixxer, that was the whole reason I never fired any comercial ammo through my .338. Because the cheapest ammo I can get is the Win. Ballistic Silvertip (believe it or not) @ about $37 a box. (before horrible 8.6% sales tax) mike

I own four rifles they never shooted a factory round: 7X57, 300 H&H, 338 Wm and a 375H&H. I own two more that never shooted a factory round for hunting purposes: A 8x68S and my beloved 404 J. Ignacio Colomer

Never gave it much thought but I have not used a factory bullet in any of my centerfire rifles since I started loading in 1980.

I had actually not fired a factory round through anything for a couple of years at least, except .45 ACP. until last weekend, I shot up some 270 grain .375's that are so old they are in a yellow Winchester box. they work good for fast offhand practice. A shot not taken is always a miss

Three of my last four rifles have only fired handloads. The odd one out is a 257 WBY that I could not find cases for so I had to buy factory ammo to get some cases to reload. -------------------- THANOS WAS RIGHT!

The only factory rounds that have passed through any of my weapons in the last 20 years have been a couple of boxes fired for chrono purposes only. viator

I have not shot any factory ammunition in quite awhile, and those rounds were at targets to fire-form the cases to the chamber for my 7mm magnum. I have a pile of .223 cases that I disassembled and used for 6x45mm and never fired them in a .223, also 6mm-284 that were unprimed cases and never saw a .284 Winchester chamber. I shot three fatory 280s out of my 280AI to check the chamber demensions and make dummies so I did not use Norma brass. That is it out of the 5 rifles I have now. Three I have are wildcats and could not shoot factory if I wanted to.

My rimfire rifles, rimfire handguns, and shotguns feed on factory ammo. Centerfire rifles and handguns only get handloads.

I am 53 years old. I currently have 47 rifles. Probably have owned that many more. Never, did I say never, have I ever fired a factory round other than rimfire. Free men should not be subjected to permits, paperwork and taxation in order to carry any firearm. NRA Benefactor

30378 , Reckon you've probably got the world record there . You must really hate factory loads ! I've had a .220 Swift and a .243 Ackley that have never seen a factory load . The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood. The only one for me is my CZ550 American in 9.3x62. My 22-250, 7mm-08, 30-06 (3 of them), and 7.62x54R have seen a varying mix of factory and handloads. My 6.5 Grendel has only seen factory loads because my reloading bench is in pieces due to a recent move. My 380, 9mmP and two 40 S&Ws have only seen factory loads. However, I plan on reloading for one 40 (a S&W 610 revolver, my other 40 is a Glock, and cases that have been used in the Glock are unrealoadable due to the unsupported case head).
