do you have rifles that have never had a factory round shot through it?

7x57mm

I was talking to my little brother yesterday who is as big a gun-nut as I am and he was shocked to find out that the three 7x57mms I have owned (two Rugers and now a CZ 550 American) and two .223 Remington's (a Howa Lightning 1500 and now a CZ 527) have never had a factory round shot through them. He said that was just plain nuts. It got me wondering, are there others out there who shoot nothing but handloads and have rifles that have seen nothing but handloads? I'm just curious, that's all. It's kind a cheating but only one of my wild cats has ever had a factory round put through it.

Two of my 7X57s ,a 22-250, a 30-06 and a 30-30 are said virgins. roger

I'd bet its not that unusual - especially for avid reloaders. I have three - .223 Rem, 7x57 and 9.3x62. All standard over the counter factory rifles!!!

I have over a dozen rifles and right at 20 handguns, and I cannot tell you the last time I shot a factory round through any of them. (And I bought a box of .30-30 Winchester in a pinch three winters ago, but cannot tell you right now exactly where it is...)

And I also can say that....well...I did buy some S & B rounds for my 6.5 X 55....but the rest are of new Winchester Brass.

A Ruger #1 in 218 Bee that I bought brand new a few years back. The only factory round that has been down the tube is what they might have used at the factory for test firing before shipping. The only factory ammo I use is either rimfire or milsurp.

I've got 2, a .300 ultra and a .450 Marlin. All the rest have had at least a few factory rounds through them. But they won't anymore, unless I lose my reloads,

Except my .22LR, it's just so cheap.

Some of my guns have never had any factory ammo in the chamber, let alone fired through the barrel. Of course, some are wildcats, so you couldn't get factory fodder even if you wanted to -- but then, why would I want factory ammo. I feel my loads are much more precise and can be tailored to any shooting situation I may encounter.

my cz550 9.3x62 and my son's cz550fs 6.5x55 have never seen a factory round. 9.3x62 factory ammo is too expensive and my son was able to shoot the same handload i was already using in my 6.5x55.

If you turn this around I will say I only have one that has fired factory ammo. My .204 Ruger...I needed the brass so I broke down.
Most of what I shoot requires handloading.

Only my 243's and my 308 have had any factory ammunition shot through them.

The 308 was my first big game rifle that I bought in 1975.

For my right handed 243, I bought it used so I assume it has.

For my left handed 243, someone gave me a partial box of factory ammo that I shot three rounds through and I still have 12 factory rounds left over 10 years old.

Yes, I own several that haven't seen the factory stuff. Some of the Factory stuff does shoot well thruough a couple of them but not nearly as well as handloads. I've disassembled premium factory ammo to find that the charges were inconsistant by several grains, that's the problem w/ mass volumetric loading. I haven't checked factory ammo for run-out, any of you?

I did however buy a cheap bulk box of 40 rounds of 22-250 to break in a new rifle I purchased then, I'll have some brass fireformed for load developement.

I never fired a single round of factory amm through my 25-06Remington and I burned out athe barrel in it.

Neither of the replacement barrels have been fed a single round of factory ammo.

And my 223Bolt gun has been fed exactly 9 factory rounds, "leftovers" I found in my
range box, there will never be any more...

My Remington semi-auto has been fed exactly twenty rounds (out of the 600rounds through it)
and that was because the dealer gave me one box of factory ammunition with the rifle when I bought it new.

I doubt you are alone....

Brazillain 1908 Mauser (I havn't shot factory in it, but somebody did once)
Hawes .44 revolvers (4 of them)
8mm 98K sporter, (not since I have owned it)

I'd have to poke around in the closet, but these are the ones that come off the top of my head.

After having two different rounds of .35 Whelen from two differnt lots not go bang (back to back) when they needed to, I havn't fired factory ammo at anything that I really needed to put a hole in right then. I simply don't trust it.

I'd say your brother was the nuts one.

i only started loading just over a year ago.
i now load for 2 handguns and 2 rifles. i shoot the odd box of .44 for the brass, 9mm brass is free(or it is to me, look at my site name!)
i would"nt even think of firing factory out of my rifles. once anyone has developed a load, why would they shoot factory crap?
the only exception is if i wanted to do a lot of fun shooting with my .308 - south african surplus FMJ is pretty accurate in my CZ, just the thing for sitting on the top of a hill in the summer, shooting at cowshit 400mtrs away, hows that for reactive target shooting!

I shoot one rifle that I have never reloaded for and that is my original high powered rifle, a Marlin 336 30-30. I tried the crimping and was not good at it, so I never mastered the procedure. All of my other rifles, twenty something, with two exceptions, get one box of cheap factory cartridges to shoot in the barrel and have brass to use from then on. The two exceptions are two .358 STA's which are wildcats, although Winchester produced some from their custom shop. I have a 35 year old son who hunts and shoots beside me and has fired thousands of rounds and has never touched off a factory round. A grandson can say the same thing, and four more grandsons and a grandaughter who will follow, I hope. Another grandson is a died and wool golfer and doesn't hunt, but has shot some excellent groups on my range and enjoys punching paper.

My 10 year old 270 has about 5 factory rounds through it. I still have the box. I suppose I should shoot them up someday.

My 300 WBY has none. Factory ammo is too damned expensive. I have to handload for it.
