Gentlemen and Ladies, The current issue of Handloader has an article on reloading the old ones. One of them is the 300HH. On page 93 the author states, "I'd fooled around the a custome .300HH . . . . before, so knew enough to avoid the 4350s with 180-grain bullets." Is anyone else familiar with this problem with 180's and 4350 in 300HHs? I am using 4350 with 180s at this time, and want to avoid any difficulties. Ku-dude

I saw that too and couldn't figure out what the hell he was alluding to. I've used both IMR and the Hodgon 4350 in two H&H's for a dozen years now with nothing but dead deer and elk to show for it. I use 180 NP's almost exculsively too. Wonder what the deal is?? FN in MT

Cannot figure out what this writer could be talking about. I have two 300 H&H Mags, and have used IMR 4350/180 Partitions in both with no problems. I believe there are better choices for this chambering/bullet combination, but the 4350 will work fine. I prefer Norma MRP or Reloder 19 and 22, since I get better accuracy with them than with IMR 4350. However, one of my guns loves 4350 with the 190 Sierra Matchking, and will stay well under MOA right out past 600 yards with it. Regards, Eagleye

Here is a recent post of mine where I share some load test data on the 300 H&H. http://www.serveroptions.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=006136 IMR 4350 with Nosler Partition 180 grain (moly) performed well but was not as accurate as RL 19 with similar velocity. I have had excellent results with RL 19.

I have a couple of questions then. I have just had my 24" barrel, pre-64, M70 bedded, and my gunsmith's load was 62.8gr of IMR4350. This shoots 180BTs in sub-MOA groups with an occasional unexplained flyer at a velocity of 2800fps. I'd really appreciate your feed back on RL 19 loads and RL 22 loads. What is the difference in shooting moly partitions? I have tried RL 19, RL 22, various 4831's, 3100, WW WMR, and 4350 before having it bedded. I am now back to the beginning with accuracy. For what it is worth, I'll give you some of the non-4831 loads that I have tried because they are powders you don't see all the time: WW852-180ST 64grs WLMR - 2630fps 68.5g - 215 - 2869fps 60grs -WLMR - 2926fps AA3100 180ST - 67gr - WLMR - 2579 180ST - 68.5g- 215M - 2781 very acc 180BT - 70.5 - WLMR - 2785 2x2" WW-WMR 180ST - 64gr - WLMR - 2561 poor acc 180ST - 65.5 - 215M - 2663 180ST - 67gr - 215M - 2773 poor grp IMR 4350 180ST - 62.5 - 215m - 2819 180ST - 62.5 - WLMR - 2725 AA 4350 180BT - 65gr - WLMR - 2852 very acc RL 22 180BT - 69gr - 210M - 2825 Acc, so-so Winchester Factory Load -180ST-2856fps I'll repost as I work thru this. That's good solid 30/06 performance! Seriously, 4350 is still one of the finest powders for use in the 300 H&H with 180s. I use it in the 308 Norma as well. It is a powder that produces good velocities (3000+) and fine accuracy. Sounds like the writer had some space to fill so he put a stupid comment in it. Regards, Bill.
