I am reloading the 300Gr. LBT Bullet in .44 Mag with Win 296. What I have been able to find suggests loading it from 19Gr. of 296 to 22.5 gr. of 296. Does this sound right? I am loading for a Ruger Super Redhawk.

The Hodgdon site is showing a max of 19 Gr of H110, which is supposed to be the same as W296, as producing 1325 FPS in an 8-1/4" barrel w/38,800 CUP, using a 300 Grain Hornady XTP. Lead bullets generally can handle a little more than jacketed, but, I'd say you're pretty darn close to redline.

Steve shows a max of 21 with 300 grain, I assume it's jacketed, as well, http://stevespages.com/429_1_300.html

I've safely loaded 23 grains of 296 behind a bull-x 300 grain truncated cone cast, and the same behind a lee 310 grain with gas check, in my ruger SBH. Note the XTP has two crimp grooves. Your redhawk has a long enough cylinder to accommodate the xtp seated to the groove closest to the bullet base. I believe it's the sierra manual that has loading data for 300 grain jacketed bullets seated to the first groove, and that falls in line with the 21-23 grain max for 44 mag and 300 grain bullets. If your bullet ends up close to the front end of your RH's cylinder, this should be fine if you work up to it.

JV

I load a 320gr. WFNGC from Cast Performance with 21.0grs. of WW296 and a CCI 350mag. large pistol primer using Fed. cases. It is traveling 1300fps. with an extreme spread of 14fps. out of my 7-1/2" Ruger Super Redhawk 44mag. No signs of high pressure in my gun. Mark
