I just picked up an 8ga single shot shotgun and ordered the components to reload it. I'm using new primed Rem 8ga black industrial hulls which I think have an extra band of metal near the rim so I'll either have to modify the base near the rim or 'clean' the chamber ever so slightly to accomidate the hulls because original 8ga hulls are BIG bucks IF you can find them. I also picked up some 8ga plastic wads, nitro cards, over shot cards, case vise, and a roll crimper. The hulls come primed and I don't know if they are Fed 209 primers, but a 209 will fit when I need to pop them out.
Enough of the background info and down to the questions: 1) Where can I get some reloading info on 8ga shot shells? I called the powder mfgrs and they flatly said 'no data'. 2) Is there a group that shoots & reloads 8ga shotshells so I can get some info from them? England possibly I've heard? 3) Do you know of anyone, heard of anyone, or possibly have an inclination of someone that shoots/reloads an 8ga that might be able to help me with info?
You might check back issues of "Double Gun Journal". I think I have seen an article or two listing 8 ga. loads within the last couple of years. I believe you can swage the belt of those cases. The folks at Ballistics Products may be able to help with that. I know they sell the components. You could also try Precision Reloading for data. I wouldn't modify the chamber to accommodate the industrial case. C.G.B.
