I am in the process of getting my Parker Hale 300WM converted to 416 Taylor and would love to get anyone's experiences and loads. Data is not very common.

Here is some info. The 416 Taylor was develped in 1972 by Robert Chatfield-Taylor. Based off the 458 win cartridge by neckeing it down,or taking a 338 win and necking it up. Some have considered it the forerunner to the 416 Rem. Here are some loads for it. 400 gr SP bullet,IMR 4320,70grs=2270fps=4595 energy. 400grsp bullet,IMR4320,71grs=2305fps=4700energy. Hope i helped you. van

JABS,

Pick up a copy of "Big Bore Rifles & Cartridges" by Wolfe Publications.

There are two articles in it on the .416 Taylor, one by Bob Hagel and the other by John Wooters including some loading data.

Like van's reco above; both Hagel & Wooters considered IMR 4320 to be their optimum powder for this cartridge. I'm sure there's others as well - just like v-d recommends.

Cheers,
