I'm trying to come up with a close range load in a .308 Win. for deer. I would like 150 yds to be the outside shot, and most would probably be within 75 yds. Does anyone know the low velocity end of this bullet that still gives enough expansion? I would make this my 150 yd. velocity and figure from there. Thanks for any info.

Spire points or round nose? I would opt for the round nose for the ranges your considering and they offers the best expansion velocity window. Captain Finlander

Load it just the same as a .30-30.....170 grain round nose or flat point and 2200-2300 FPS. Dead deer all over the place. If you must load the 180 grain core lokt....up the speed to 2400 FPS....same end for the deer.! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I'd use 180 gr Round Nose.... Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.
