FWIW, I've never tried Federal brass in .223, but it ranks just above Wolf steel cases on AR15.com. Supposedly, it's too soft, resulting in loose primer pockets.

$15 per K is cheap, though.

they've got Remington for the same price.
i like Federal better than Remington or Winchester.
