I want to make a portable shooting bench.. It has to be light but sturdy.. One of the shooting lanes I freqeuntly visit they have one that is very good, but not possible to move from time to time.. And this is only a 100 yard lane. I might just use an old kitchen table and rearrange it a bit.. Anyone with similar projects? Smiler

I've built a few of these:

bench

I left off the cut outs for the handles and only cut out the back for a right handed shooter.

The AeroAces table is one of the lightest, yet most stable and easiest to build I have seen..cost is about $50 for parts and it requires no welding. I modified the plans for mine to suit my needs.

SmilerLot of good plans and ideas out there. I made one a few years ago out of a Black and decker fold up work bench that wasn't being used. Mounted a piece of 3/4 plywood on the front with a padded v cut in it. used a sand bag on the back. Wasn't adjustable but worked fine!

I don't know if MTM products are available in Norway, but you might want to check out the portable bench they have recently added to their product line.

Anders;

I have a plan for my knockdown/portable bench which I could scan in and eMail to you if you eMail me that you are interested. It will transport, knocked down, in the back seat of a small sedan. Carefully cut from a single sheet of 3/4" weatherproof plywood, it assembles into a very rigid structure. Sloppily cut, it'll wiggle. I have sold a few and had good feedback. L-shaped top is 34"x34" and it has an integral seat.

Cut a top to suit you out of 3/4" plywood. (Glue two pieces together if you want it thicker/heavier) Glue/Screw a 2x4 on edge down the middle of it on bottom. Open up your Workmate, clamp the 2x4 in it, instant folding, portable, bench. If you're frosty, make a stool just the right height to sit on.

Great ideas! Now I have something to work on.. I will try to post the result.. I`ll make it as simple and cheap as possible.
The height is pretty important to get right I think, and also to sit comfortable. To make shooting rest I just cut of the legs from a pair of pants, filled them with sand and sew togheter.. And that left me with a shorts as well... Smiler

I have used an ironing board for a portable shooting bench.
They are fairly stable, narrow enough to use either handed, and are hight adjustable. Just put it back before your wife need it to get ready for church or what ever.

Here`s how mine turned out.. A few hours of thinking, drawing, checking AR and then putting it together.. Smiler

It`s quite sturdy. The top is plywood. Made holes that fit right on those small wood knobs. Need a drill and a hammer when visiting the shooting range now..

(Ironing table)

Well I did, damn thing folded up on me during use, and it wobbled all over the range.
Ended up with a saw-horse from the hardware shop, came with fold up legs. Just put some cross pieces on, a sheet of that compressed woodchip stuff on top, a little ledge around to stop ammo rolling off, shallow slots off side to use as a rifle rack etc etc. Not particularly light but folds up quick to a few inches high. (Plus very low stool for the shooting of heavy kickers.)

San Angelo makes a pretty darn good looking bench.

I think the tabletob is made of Lexane so it isn't that heavy when you compare tabletop area.
