Whats the deal with these coatings and what do they do to your barrel? I tend to keep my non-hunting velocities around 2000fps to save my brass.

They don't do anything to your barrel. What they do is eliminate the need for bullet lube. The Hy Tec works the same as powder coating your cast bullets.
