Just placed an order in on a Remington 300 Ultr mag in the 700BDL SS. I never had any experience with this caliber. I plan on using the gun for Elk, Moose, Bear, and really long Range deer. I'm looking for some loads to start out with. I plan on using the 180gr or 200gr Partition on all the big game(If they group well), and the 150 Scirrocos(SP?) on the deer. What powders are good to start with? For my 7Mag I use RL22 a lot, and I have some IMR7828. I think I am going to pick up some some RL25 and some H1000...a lot of ppl are recomending these to me. I am also looking for a nice scope to top it off with. Looking for 4-12 range with a 50mm OBJ. I am trying to keep the price to around 400-450. Thanx everyone in advance. Ryan

For loading data: http://stevespages.com/308_15.html For scope selection... I prefer the Leupold VX-III in 4.5-14x40AO.

good choice for what you are hunting I have found that the heavier bullets bring the 300 into it's full accuracy potential , I've had scirrocos do weird things at the velocities this cartridge produces try: www.loadyourown.com

I have had best luck with Retumbo and heavy bullets. The 200 partition will never let you down. Rl-25 gets interesting with 180 grainers and lighter. The plain 3.5-10X40 Leupold has proven to be a reliable compromise for me. Jamie

I have the exact same rifle and get some pretty decent accuracy (3/4 MOA) using the 180gr Partitions and 94.5gr of RL-25. Don't put a cheap scope on it. Whatever you buy needs to handle the pounding of the recoil. I put a 3.5-10x50 on mine and haven't had any problems with it. Good luck.

I'm getting less tham 1" groups at 100 yards with IMR 4350 and Fed 215 Magnum primers. For 180 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips or Partitions I use 80 grains. The Ballistic Tips are a bit more accurate than the Partitions. For the Nosler Accubond at 200 grains I use 77 grains of IMR 4350. The 180 grain Ballistic Tips yield me a muzzle velocity of 2980 FPS and the 200 grain Accubond has a muzzle velocity of 2840 FPS.

I have a 300 RUM made by HS Precision. It is the only gun I have used in the last three years. I do have a removable Muzzle Break installed. I found it no fun on the bench. My gun shot both the 180 Scricco and 200 gr. Nosler from Remington excellent. I used the Scricco on a Mule Deer Antelope Hunt both animals where shot around 100 yards and the bullets broke apart. I used the Nosler in Africa lst year with great results. I chronographed the Nosler load at 3085 fps. I recovered bullets form Both an Eland and a Hartebest. They worked as advertised. I am working on hand loads with the 200 gr. Accubond, 79 gr. of IMR-4350 is 3000 fps and I have got 1/2 inch groups. I have a Swarovski 3-10X 42 and a Leupold 2.5-10X 42 sighted in with Talley quick disconect rings.
