Due to the issues of shipping powder into the UK, there is virtualy no RL15 available anywhere in the UK. This was a shame as both the 243 and 22-250 AI had excellent loads working with them
The AI was running 4000FPS with A-Max 52s with a 40.6 load. I have had to switch to VV150 (European powder and easy to get) and I worked out that a similar weight charge would be okay. I loaded from 40 to 41 grains in .2 grain increments. Now I thought this load would be fairly stiff. I've not tried it yet, but just read the Load Data on this site. It states that a load of up to 48 grains of VV140 is used. 140 being faster than 150 I would have thought that would have been far too high.
Have I got my 150 load completely wrong???
There is no data I can find for 150 with AI and have transposed data from other cartridges with other powders...

JF - The Nosler Reloading Manuals #4 and #5 have reloading data for the 22-250 A.I. With a 55 gr Ballistic Tip, they show a max load of 39.0 gr of Vihtavuori N-140 for 3753 fps with their 26" Shilen Barrel. That was with reformed Winchester brass and Rem 9 1/2 primers. FWIW, they indicated that their most accurate load with that bullet and powder occurred at their starting load of 35.0 gr. If you need a lot more data, the newest Sierra manual offers a whole bunch of loads with various powders for the .22-250 A.I. Unfortunately, I don't have one on hand, or I would offer to email it to you. My older Sierra 3rd addition does not have data for the 22-250 Ackley. Hope this helps. Obviously, you will need to work up loads for your particular rifle, especially since each chamber might be cut differently for a wildcat cartridge. At least the Nosler data offers a good safe starting point, and a hint about where they felt the max. load was for their particular barrel.

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

My dad and I have burned a lot of ammo in various 22-250 AI rifles. We never used anything other than H 4895 that I can remember.

Sure, we tinkered with other stuff, but H 4895 always seemed to do best. I do seem to recall having good luck with N 140 in one of them, but it was no better than H 4895.

N 140, or Varget, or IMR 4064 should work quite well, though. The burning rate is good for that cartridge.

I've used N150, N550, N140 and Norma 203b (VERY similar to RL15 - both are Bofors powders) with my 22-250AI. My best load was 40grs N150, R-P cases, Federal 210 primer, VMax 55grs Moly. This load is very near max in the two AI's I've shot - one Rem 700 VSSF and one custom Sako A2.
Some of the 22-250AI load data on this site are crazy, think of what 48grs og N140 with a 52grs bullet will do .......

One thing I found is that the Vhit load data (powder charges) on their web site is way high for my rifles. It's too hot. It's scary.
So, be safe!! Start low and work up.

The VV 22-250 data (2006 version) has been perfectly safe in several Rem 700's and one Howa I've tested them in.
